Denmark Euro 2021 Tips and Betting Odds

Welcome to BettingOdds.com's Euro 2021 profile series, where we'll be counting down to next summer's tournament with an in-depth look at the betting opportunities for each of the countries involved.
Can Denmark recreate some of their magic from 1992?
Denmark will be relishing the chance to cause an upset on the biggest stage this summer at Euro 2021, just as they did back in 1992. The Danes currently possess one of their most talented squads of recent years and coach Kasper Hjulmand has made a bright start after taking the reigns last year.
Author's Opinion
Denmark could well exceed expectations at this summer's tournament and I certainly fancy them to qualify from Group B. Belgium should well top the group with the other two opponents being Russia and Finland. The Russians are far from the side they were when they hosted the World Cup in 2018 and Finland are the biggest price of any side to lift the trophy. Christian Eriksen, Pierre Hojbjerg and Kasper Schmeichel are the stand out names with plenty of other quality from players such as Thomas Delaney of Dortmund, Daniel Wass of Valencia and Jannik Vestergaard of Southampton.
It’s likely that Denmark will play the runner up of Group A should they finish second behind Belgium in Group B, which would most likely lead to a knockout game with Turkey, Switzerland or Wales. I’d take Denmark over any of those sides and it would be no surprise to see them in the quarter-finals. I’d have been happy to take the 66/1 each-way that was available at the start of the year but at 28’s the Scandinavians are now too short for my liking.

Top Three Key Players
Christian Eriksen, Inter Milan
Despite not being a regular starter for his club Inter Milan this season, Chrstian Eriksen will play a key role for his country at Euro 2021. No other player in the current squad has more caps for their country than the former Spurs man (105) and along with captain Simon Kjaer (104) he is one of only two players to feature over 100 times for Denmark.
Eriksen’s goals will also be crucial for the Danes to go deep into this tournament. He’s the current top scorer in the squad with 36 and tends to take up a prominent attacking position behind the lone striker. The 29-year-old scored four goals in six games in Denmark’s most recent Nations League campaign and being a free-kick and penalty taker he will also be one to watch out for in the shots market.
Kasper Schmeichel, Leicester City
Kasper Schmeichel was just five when his dad Peter helped Denmark lift the Euro 1992 trophy. The now 34-year-old will be looking to emulate his father’s success this summer with one of the most talented Denmark squads of the last two decades. The Leicester City goalkeeper will have completed his seventh top flight season with the Foxes and at the time of writing only three goalkeepers in the division have kept more clean sheets than Schmeichel. His shot stopping has helped his club challenge for the top four once again and his experience will be crucial across the continent this summer
Pierre Hojbjerg, Tottenham
Jose Mourinho’s go-to man in midfield has enjoyed a strong first season at Spurs and has been a joy to watch in large spells after making the switch from Southampton to the capital. The warrior-like midfielder has made over twice the amount of tackles of any other player at Tottenham this term. A player who wears his heart on his sleeve, Hojbjerg is one to watch in the tackles and cards markets at the Euros.
Young Gun
At the end of March Denmark were drawing 0-0 with Austria 10 minutes into the second half before manager Kasper Hjulmand brought 21-year-old Andreas Skov Olsen off the bench. The substitute went on to score two goals and helped change the game in what would turn out to be a 4-0 win for the Scandinavians. The youngster is normally deployed as an attacking right winger for his club Bologna and he could be one to watch coming off the bench for his country.
Denmark’s Outright Odds at Euro 2021
Denmark’s only victory in a major tournament came back in 1992. John Jensen and Kim Vilfort gave Richard Moller Neilsen’s side a 2-0 win in the final against Germany and they will fancy their chances of reaching the knockout phase this time round.
This Summer Denmark are priced at 28/1 in the winner market to repeat their success of the early nineties, they have shortened considerably in the betting after being 66/1 at the turn of the year.
Denmark’s Group Odds at Euro 2021
The Danes have been handed a group at Euro 2021 where they will fancy their chances of qualifying. Belgium, Russia and Finland will be the opponents for Denmark who are 11/4 to top the group and 1/3 to qualify.
The Gaffer
Kasper Hjulmand has spent the majority of his coaching career in Denmark with FC Nordsjaelland as well as a season with Mainz in Germany. The 49-year-old has won eight of his eleven games in charge of the National side since taking over from Age Hareide in 2020.
