Dele Alli now odds-on to sign for Paris Saint-Germain

Paris Saint-Germain are now odds-on favourites to sign Dele Alli before the transfer window closes on October 5.
The England international has been a regular fixture in Spurs’ starting line-up throughout the previous five years, though following a dip in form is now seeing chances become limited with Jose Mourinho in charge of the club.
Alli has played just 45 minutes of Premier League football so far this season, and was dropped from the Spurs squad completely for Sunday’s trip to Southampton - a game which the north London outfit won 5-2 thanks to four goals from Son Heung-min and a late strike from Harry Kane.
After enjoying a mini revival when Mourinho first took charge of affairs back in November (Alli scored five goals and provided three assists during the Portugese’s opening month in charge), the 24-year-old’s form again dropped off and he would end the 2019-20 campaign scoring just once more before suffering a muscle injury which ruled him out for almost the entirety of Project Restart.
Since the 2020-21 campaign started earlier this month, Alli has played just one half of football - missing out on the squad for last week’s Europa League tie against Lokomotiv Plovdiv and Sunday’s win over Southampton in the Premier League. And, with Gareth Bale’s season-long loan from Real Madrid now confirmed, it does leave further question marks surrounding Alli’s future at Spurs.
Manager Jose Mourinho has suggested that the former MK Dons midfielder will have to fight for his position in the starting line-up this season, something he has not had to do since arriving at the club in 2015.
PSG are favourites to capture his signature in the upcoming two weeks, priced odds-on at 4/5 in the betting. A move to Ligue 1 would be financially lucrative for Alli and he would surely thrive in a league which is played out at a much slower tempo, though whether it would be the best decision for him from a purely footballing standpoint is doubtful.
It would, however, give him an opportunity to regain confidence and possibly boost his chances of making England’s squad for next summer’s European Championships, especially if gametime is going to be hard to come by at Tottenham.
With four years still left to run on his contract, though, it would take a large sum from the Parisians to coax the 24-year-old away from N17 - likely something around the £70m mark - so it remains to be seen if they are prepared to part with that kind of money, or attempt to sign him on a season-long loan deal instead.
