Cricket World Cup 2023 Betting Tips: Two best bets for the tournament
The 2023 Cricket World Cup in India is here and England will be hoping to become back-to-back world champions after winning the competition in 2019 on home soil by the barest of margins.
Jos Buttler’s men are one of the favourites, but face stern competition from plenty of other teams in what promises to be a thrilling tournament.
The 10-team round-robin group stage will run from October 5 to November 12, with four teams qualifying for the semi-finals on November 15th and 16th before the final at the incredible 134,000-seater Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Here are our predictions and best bet for what promises to be an epic six weeks of cricket.
Cricket World Cup Winner Odds
India are unsurprisingly comfortable favourites at 2/1 heading into the tournament.
The hosts of the tournament have won the last three World Cups and India are imperious at home, as well as the number one ranked team in the world.
Reigning champions England are in second place with the bookies at 10/3 with Australia and Pakistan just behind them.
South Africa are an interesting value pick at 9/1.
Granted they do have a terrible record in these tournaments historically but their 15-man squad is filled with talent. They have a brilliant seam attack led by Kagiso Rabada, two world-class spinners in Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi and a batting lineup filled with destructive hitters.
They are our team to watch, but we’re still backing India to win the tournament.
Cricket World Cup 2023 Tips
Shubman Gill has completely burst onto the scene in the past 18 months and it is now no surprise that he is the joint-favourite to the be the top scoring batsman in the World Cup, alongside a certain King Kohli.
He averages 66.10 at a strike rate of over 100 in ODIs, including six hundreds, one of which being a double in just 35 games.
In short, he is an absolute superstar with a frankly ridiculous record, playing in conditions that suit him and that he knows well.
Opening up is the best place to bat in ODIs, giving you a full ten overs of powerplay to set your team up for a total and Gill is a classy player.
This could be the tournament that entrenches him as one of the world’s best players.
Cricket in India tends to be played in March or April, and this tournament is being held right at the end of the rainy season, so the pitches haven’t had a huge amount of time to dry and crack up.
On top of that, the vast majority of games will be played at night under lights, with dew being a factor.
Trent Boult is an absolute master with the new ball swinging the ball back into the right-hander and was exceptional in the recent series against England.
On top of that, he is the Blackcaps’ primary death bowler, meaning he’ll get lots of opportunities to shine.
