Coventry vs. West Brom Betting Tips: Best bets for Championship clash
West Brom make the short trip to Coventry in the Championship on Monday evening. The game can be seen live on Sky Sports and we’ve picked out our best bets for the occasion, both of which are with betMGM.
After the agonising defeat in the play-off final last season, Coventry find themselves just above the drop zone with 15 points after 13 matches. The Sky Blues have only won three matches so far this term, but the potential return of Callum O’Hare on Monday could well be the catalyst to kick-start their season for Mark Robins’ side.
Carlos Corberan may be without as many as eight of his West Brom players for this clash. Adam Reach, Daryl Dike, Josh Maja, John Swift, Semi Ajayi and Cedric Kipre are all confirmed absentees, while Conor Townsend remains a doubt through injury.
Coventry vs West Brom Tips
After losing their last two matches against Rotherham and Bristol City and failing to get on the scoresheet in either, it may seem like an obvious bet to side with the visitors on Monday.
This game does not have the hallmarks of a thriller with Coventry’s only goal in their last three arriving by a Ben Gibson own goal against Norwich.
West Brom may be able to lift themselves into the play-off places with a victory here but despite Coventry being 20th in the table, they are unbeaten at home this season! In total, Coventry are undefeated in their last nine league games in front of their own fans (W4 D5).
West Brom will be without their top-scorer this season Jon Swift on Monday and all things considered this could be a low scoring-affair.
Coventry have seen more of their matches finish a draw than any other side in the Championship this season (6), and with West Brom having just one fewer (5), backing the points to be shared looks a strong proposition at around 23/10.
Peter Bankes will be the referee in charge at the Coventry Building Society Arena and last year he possessed the highest yellow cards per game ratio of any Premier League official to take control of 20+ matches in the top-flight.
It has been well documented how referees are clamping down on time-wasting, dissent and other offences this season with punters seeing a rise in the card-counts across England’s top-four divisions.
Bankes has taken control of five Premier League matches this season and has already dished out 33 yellow and one red card. That’s an average of 6.8 cards per game in 2023/24 and we’ll be taking the 7/4 that is available for Over 5.5 to be shown here.
