It’s been a hectic couple of weeks for Coventry who will be playing their fourth match in ten days against Ipswich. The Sky Blues' FA Cup heartbreak won’t be going away any time soon, and since then they have endured a 3-2 home defeat to Hull City, before a 0-0 draw with relegation-threatened Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.
Ipswich played out a thrilling 3-3 draw with Hull City last weekend, however they will have been disappointed to not take all three points considering they took the lead three times in the match. The Tractor Boys are third in the table, level on points with Leeds, although automatic promotion is still in their hands with this game against Hull and a fixture against already relegated Huddersfield remaining.
Coventry vs Ipswich Tips
Ipswich are priced at 4/5 to win the game in the standard result market and although we want to get Kieran McKenna’s men onside, the selection we like the look of is them to win the game with both teams scoring at 21/10 with William Hill.
58% of Ipswich’s league wins this season have included both sides getting on the scoresheet and we think this could be the case once more against an energy-drained Coventry side. The 120 minutes against Manchester United clearly took a lot out of the squad both physically and mentally. They will be without defender Liam Kitching after his red card at Blackburn and with the prospect of taking a giant leap towards promotion, Ipswich can come out on top.
Despite this, Coventry have only lost four home matches from 21 this season. They have scored in all but one of their last 13 Championship home outings and can do so here to make it an exciting and potentially high scoring contest.
The first leg of our 28/1 Bet Builder is Omari Hutchinson to score. The midfielder netted twice against Hull City on Saturday evening with both goals coming from outside the area. That’s now four goals across his last six for Ipswich and he has recorded more shots than any other member of his squad during that period.
Ellis Simms is the Coventry player we are backing to get his name on the scoresheet on Tuesday. The forward has not scored in either of his two appearances since scoring against Manchester United in the FA Cup semi-final, however he has still managed 13 goals in his last 13 appearances across all competitions and makes appeal at the current prices.
Rounding off the trio of selections is Sam Morsy to be carded. No player has committed more fouls in the entire Championship this season than the Ipswich midfielder who has racked up 70 in total. He also leads the way for his club for yellow cards having collected 13. Seven of those cautions have come on the road in 20 appearances and with Ipswich needing at least a point to have their fate in their own hands on the final day of the season, it would be no surprise to see him make a few cynical tackles.
