Coventry vs. Luton Betting Tips: Best bets for the Championship Play-Off Final
Coventry City and Luton Town do battle at Wembley on Saturday for the chance to bag the third and final promotion spot up to the Premier League.
Tipster Wizard has previewed the action and provided his two best bets for this huge championship Play-Off Final!
Coventry finished their regular season 5th in the standings with 70 points, while Luton finished 3rd with 80 points.
The Sky Blues went up against high-flying Middlesbrough in the play-off semi-finals, and after a 0-0 draw at home, they went to the Riverside Stadium and pulled off a 1-0 win to book their spot at Wembley.
Preventing the Championship’s second highest scorers from scoring a single goal across 90 minutes is a huge feat and one that will give Coventry a huge boost going into this final.
As for Luton, they were on a 14 game unbeaten run before going down 2-1 to Sunderland in the playoff semi-final first leg but battled back valiantly to win 2-0 which was enough to reward them with a place at Wembley.
This could be a historic fixture for Luton who will have the chance to play in the Premier League for the first time in their history if they can get the better of a well organised Coventry side.
Both head to head meetings between these two sides ended in draws this season and I am expecting another cagey game as both sides approach with caution with a place in the Premier League on the line.
A mouth-watering playoff final awaits us and as usual, I have you covered with two of my best betting angles included in the preview below:
Team News:
Callum O’Hare & Fabio Tavares are out for Coventry while Kasey Palmer & Tyler Walker are doubtful.
Cauley Woodrow is doubtful for Luton. No other injuries/suspensions.
Coventry possible starting lineup:
Wilson; McNally, McFadzean, Doyle; Norton-Cuffy, Hamer, Kelly, Sheaf, Bidwell; Godden, Gyokeres
Luton possible starting lineup:
Horvath; Osho, Lockyer, Bell; Drameh, Clark, Nakamba, Mpanzu, Doughty; Adebayo, Morris
Coventry vs Luton Tips
- Bet Builder @ 3/4 - 1pt (Bet365) - Selections Below.
- Bet Builder @ 19/4 - 0.25pt (Bet365) - Selections Below.
Bet Builder Selections:
- Under 4 goals in the match
- Viktor Gyokeres Over 0.5 shots in the match
- Carlton Morris Over 0.5 shots in the match
- Over 1 cards in the 2nd half
Play-off finals are historically low scoring affairs with 16 of the last 24 finals featuring just two goals or less.
“Under 4 goals” landed in both play-off semi-final legs for Coventry (0-0 & 1-0) and Luton (1-2 & 2-0).
I am expecting a cagey affair with defences on top which should limit the number of chances created resulting in fewer goals.
As for Gyokeres shots, he is averaging 2.9 shots per game so far this season and managed four and three shots in his two games against Luton this season.
Carlton Morris is Luton’s main man on the attacking front and averages 2.6 shots per game so far this season. He registered three and one shots in his two meetings against Coventry this season and should be able to get at least one shot comfortably.
As for the cards, we have Michael Oliver in charge as the referee who averages 3.58 cards per game which is not a high number but the second half should produce a lot of tactical fouls which will lead into bookable offences.
Coventry’s play-off semi-final second leg saw six cards in the second half while there were two cards in the secnd half of Luton’s play-off semi-final second leg fixture against Sunderland.
With a place in the Premier League on the line, I expect aggressive tackles as well as some time wasting tactics in the final 45 minutes which should lead into at least two cards being dished out.
Combining these four selections gives us a solid Bet Builder at 4/5 and I am happy to stake 1pt on it as our main bet for this game.
Bet Builder (2) Selections:
- Under 2 goals in the match
- Viktor Gyokeres Over 1.5 shots in the match
- Carlton Morris Over 1.5 shots in the match
The “Under 1.5 goals” selection has landed in 13 of the last 24 play-off finals.
As for the shots, the “Over 1.5 shots” selection for both players is a sensible inclusion with both players averaging close to three shots per game.
Following on from our main Bet Builder, taking these higher lines on three of the selections give us a cracking Bet Builder at 19/4 and I am happy to take that as our second bet for this game.
