Colombia managed a 1-0 win over Venezuela in their opening match of this latest campaign and have since followed up with three consecutive draws. Nestor Lorenzo’s side currently sit fifth in the standings, although a win here could see them rise as high as second if other results go their way.
Brazil lost their first World Cup qualifier match since 2015 when they were beaten by Uruguay in the previous round of fixtures. The game was marred by the serious injury sustained by Neymar and heading into this clash they find themselves five points behind Argentina in the table at this early stage.
Colombia vs Brazil Tips
Colombia have seen their last three matches finish with the points being shared and I’m backing them to frustrate Brazil and make it four draws in a row. At the time of writing, bet365 are the best-priced bookmaker on this selection with 11/5 on show, implying a 31% chance of this bet clicking.
The last time Colombia were beaten was all the way back in February 2022 when Argentina managed a narrow 1-0 victory. That was 15 matches ago since Colombia tasted defeat and they have become a side who can be difficult to break down over the course of the last 18 months.
Brazil are missing some key players for this game including Neymar, Casemiro, Ederson, Richarlison and Gabriel Jesus. The defeat to Uruguay after failing to get the better of Venezuela on home soil were rather worrying results for Brazil and it’s also worth noting that three of their last five matches against Colombia have resulted in the points being shared.
I’ve also picked out a longshot at 25/1 that consists of Vinicius Junior to score, along with both Joelinton and Yerson Mosquera to be carded at 25/1.
Vinicius has scored three goals in his last two appearances for Real Madrid and has eight in 12 for club and country this season. At 5/2 as a single he looks a little overpriced here.
Joelinton should get an opportunity to start in the middle of the park alongside his Newcastle United team mate Bruno Guimaraes. Last season only one player in the Premier League was shown more yellow cards than Joelinton who picked up 12 in just 32 appearances.
FC Cincinnati right-back Santiago Arias has had to withdraw from international duty with injury, and the 31-year-old could be replaced by club teammate Yerson Mosquera. Unfortunately for him he will be the direct opponent of Vini Jr, one of the most fouled players in world football. Mosquera has been shown seven yellows and one red in 26 appearances for his club side in 2023 and he should be in for a long evening with Vinicius running at him.
