Chelsea vs Wolves: Raheem Sterling backed to shine against The Wanderers

This weekend Chelsea plays host to Wolverhampton Wanderers, a team struggling massively in the Premier League this season. Chelsea look to have found a bit of form under Graham Potter winning their last two games under him, whereas quite the opposite can be said about Wolves who have recently sacked Bruno Lage due to bad performances. We’ve had a look at the game ahead of the weekend and picked out three bets we like the look of.
Chelsea vs Wolves Tips
Wolves currently find themselves 18th in the Premier League with only six points to their name and one win from eight. They also boast the damning statistic of least goals scored in the Premier League this season, only finding the back of the net three times so far. A win for them could mean an escape from the relegation zone, a place this squad should be nowhere near.
Chelsea will be hoping to build on the two wins on the bounce under new manager Graham Potter and there doesn’t look like many better opportunities than a home game against Wolves. A win here could see Chelsea re-enter the top four places, something that will be one of the main goals for the club this season. The departure of Thomas Tuchel puzzled a lot of football fans, many doubting that move, however, Potter will be looking to silence all the haters and there is no better way of doing that than winning three in a row.
Chelsea come in as the rightful favourites for this game at around 2/5, with an upset Wolves victory being priced at around 13/2. As far as team news goes, N’Golo Kante is still missing with a thigh injury, and Wesley Fofana looked to have picked up an injury after scoring his first goal for the club against Milan. Iit isn’t looking pretty for Wolves with seven players being ruled out, the most important ones being Ruben Neves through suspension and Raul Jimenez with a groin injury.
The first tip comes across as a fairly obvious one. Chelsea are coming off two solid wins and Wolves are looking absolutely awful especially when it comes to scoring goals. Wolves have only scored one goal away from home this season in the Premier League and have only managed one point from a possible 12 on the road.
We just can’t see a way that Wolves even manage to threaten Chelsea with their current team. They're without a manager, near the bottom of the league, and have scored the least goals of everyone in the Prem. Combine this with Chelsea being an overwhelming favourite for the game according to the bookies, it should be a walk in the park for the Blues.
BTTS has only landed once in three of their last meetings, although it is a bit hard to compare their previous games as this current Wolves outfit is a shadow of recent times. Their recent head-to-head results read, 2-2, 0-0, 0-0. History at least shows that this fixture is a relatively dull game, and given the current state of the two teams, we can see nothing other than a Chelsea win which ultimately leads us to think this will be a low-scoring affair in favour of Chelsea.
Raheem Sterling has been prolific throughout his Premier League career and he'll be looking to get back to scoring ways against Wolves. We’ve previously mentioned how much Wolves have been struggling this year so I'll focus purely on Raheem Sterling now.
Raheem Sterling has gone no longer than 4 games without scoring for Chelsea since he signed for them, it's hard to say anyone is due a goal as there's no concrete statistic behind that, but Sterling will hope that he won't go four games without a goal and continue his current trend of scoring against the defensively weak Wolves.
Sterling has managed four goals in the nine games he has played against Wolves and actually more recently has two in his last two games against them.We expect one of their best scorers to find himself on the scoresheet given his recent record. Some might argue Aubameyang is more prolific but statistics favour Sterling when it comes to Wolves as the Gabon international only has one goal in six games against them.
We’re expecting him to get a goal this weekend, however, Sterling isn't always the most prolific when it comes to taking his chances. He normally needs one or two extra before he's on the sheet.
When he scored against Southampton he registered two shots on target. When he scored two against Leicester he registered three shots on target. This looks a solid bet coming in to a game where Chelsea should have the upper hand in terms of possession and chances.
And that'll conclude the three punts for Chelsea vs Wolves, best of luck to all those that follow!
