Chelsea vs Tottenham Prediction, Preview & Betting Tips: Maddison tipped to shine in 3/1 double

Rivalries reacquaint on Thursday night as Chelsea and Tottenham do battle at Stamford Bridge. Matthew O’Regan has previewed the game with bets at 5/6 & 3/1.
Chelsea vs Tottenham Prediction
Chelsea vs Tottenham Preview
When Chelsea and Tottenham face each other it is rarely without talking points. The Blues triumphed 4-3 earlier in the season in a topsy-turvy game that saw the hosts rush into a 2-0 lead after just 11 minutes.
2022 saw the infamous spat between Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte, while the ‘Battle Of The Bridge’ in 2016 is still etched deep in the mind of supporters of both sides to this day. There will certainly be no love lost when the sides meet under the lights at the Bridge on Sunday.
A ferocious game is expected, with both managers under pressure. Enzo Maresca won the Championship with Leicester last year and impressed the Chelsea hierarchy enough for them to offer him a five-year deal. Despite them sitting fourth, some of the performances have flattered to deceive and they could be as low as seventh come kick off.
One of the main gripes from Chelsea fans of their Italian manager is his insistence on Robert Sanchez despite a number of underwhelming performances. A string of errors in the 1-0 loss at The Emirates could convince Maresca to recall Filip Jorgensen to the starting XI. Only Liverpool, Arsenal and Nottingham Forest have accumulated more home points than Chelsea, so they will be looking to capitalise on this against a feeble Tottenham.
The immense pressure on Ange Postecoglou grows by the day. The international break came at the perfect time for the Australian, with his side losing 2-0 at Fulham in a dismal display. The break would’ve given his injured players, most notably Christian Romero and Micky van de Ven, time to recover.
Spurs sit 14th in the Premier League, looking destined for their first bottom-half finish since the 2007/08 season. While injuries have decimated them, fans’ patience with Postecoglou is beginning to wear thin.
Chelsea vs Tottenham Betting Tips
While historically these games see an abundance of goals, I am happy to back against the grain with an under selection.
Chelsea home games this season have averaged three goals - the exact average of Tottenham away games. While Spurs’ home games tend to breed chaos, only four teams have conceded fewer goals on the road than Tottenham, while only four teams have conceded fewer home goals than Chelsea.
Of the Blues' 14 league home games, ten have seen under 3.5. Tottenham have seen under 3.5 goals in 9/14 away, so the value certainly lies with the under.
James Maddison has quietly had a productive season at Tottenham, registering 14 goal contributions in 17 starts, averaging 0.82 per 90 in the Premier League, including an assist in his 11 minute cameo off the bench in the reverse.
With a crunch Europa League clash against Frankfurt next Thursday and a home game against Southampton on Sunday, Maddison should start on Thursday and rest against the basement boys. He is averaging 2.18 shots per 90 this season.
