Chelsea vs. Liverpool Betting Tips: Best bets from The Bridge on Tuesday

Chelsea welcome Liverpool Stamford Bridge in their first game since Graham Potter was sacked. Both of these sides were beaten at the weekend and this result could have a huge impact on the remainder of the season. Our man Scott Thornton is on hand with his best bets for the game. 

The Blues’ defeat at home to Aston Villa was the final straw for Graham Potter. Chelsea showed patience with the English manager as they looked to steer clear of the revolving door policy that the club was renowned for during the Roman Abramovich era. Chelsea are 11th and they have one of the most talented young sides in world football after a couple of transfer windows under the new ownership regime.

Liverpool were fighting for an unprecedented quadruple last season but the physical and emotional impact of last season appears to be having an effect on this campaign. Klopp’s side have been poor away from home and it seems unlikely they will qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Chelsea are dealing with injuries to players like Thiago Silva, Cesar Azpilicueta and Raheem Sterling, but they have a deep enough squad to contend with those. Interim manager, Bruno Saltor, has a wealth of options at his disposal as he attempts to secure the points on Tuesday. Luis Diaz has returned to training for Liverpool but he is unlikely to feature. Thiago is also ruled out with injury.

Recent meetings between these sides haven’t been goal friendly. They contested both of the domestic cup finals last season and both saw the game end 0-0 after extra time. The stakes aren’t as high in this match but both sides will want to keep it tight early on. Liverpool have been leaking goals this season, particularly away from home. Saltor knows his side need a positive result to keep any hope of European football alive for next season. Chelsea also earned a 0-0 draw when they travelled to Anfield earlier this season.

If the game is played in a tentative fashion, it should also have a bearing on goal kicks. The last two league meetings between these sides at Stamford Bridge have seen 12 and 11 goal kicks. Liverpool’s away matches so far this season are averaging just 12.92 goal kicks per game. Their match at the Etihad this weekend saw just six goals kicks. Klopp’s side were only able to force two goal kicks from their opponents despite trailing for a long period. They will have more chances against Chelsea but the line in this bet is slightly higher than expected.
