Charlton vs Leyton Orient Prediction: League One Play-Off Final Tips, Predicted Lineups

Charlton and Leyton Orient make their short commutes to Wembley on Sunday, bidding to join Birmingham and Wrexham in the Championship.
EFL pundit Gab Sutton discusses who will come out on top in the League One play-off final.

Charlton vs Leyton Orient Preview
Back in February’s league meeting at Brisbane Road, Leyton Orient headed into injury-time on course for what would have been a deserved victory in a crucial game in the Play-Off scramble, only for Charlton to break O’s hearts to steal the points in injury-time.
That moment, Addicks boss Nathan Jones made himself pantomime villain with home fans with an emphatic celebration, diving into the away end, much like we’d expect him to if his side won Sunday’s decisive game, rather than an important league match.
Jones’ passionate, heart-on-sleeve style appeals to the cameras, whether intended or not, and certainly adds spice and entertainment to the neutral experience, and makes him fun to have as manager when he’s on your side - but it also rubs opposition up the wrong way.
So, Orient fans would love nothing more than to get one over the Welshman en route to their own glory - Sunday will tell us who has the last laugh.
Charlton vs Leyton Orient Betting Tips
With plenty of star quality on show for both teams, a high-scoring game could be on the cards, making Both Teams To Score a nice price at 1/1 with Betfred.
For Leyton Orient, dynamo Ethan Galbraith has been one of the best footballers in the league this season, Jamie Donley has brought delightfully deft technique with his left peg on loan from Tottenham, while Charlie Kelman is League One’s top goalscorer with 23 goals.
Charlton, meanwhile, boast pace and skill out wide in Tyreece Campbell and Thierry Small who, along with Josh Edwards and Kayne Ramsay on the left and right respectively, provide the bulk of their creativity to complement a more industrious midfield.
There should be chances for either team, and it’s hard to envisage either of them failing to find the net.
My second bet is for Charlton to lift the trophy at a best-priced 8/13 with bet365.
In Lloyd Jones, Charlton have one of the best centre-backs in League One, as well as a strong midfield pairing of the energetic Greg Docherty, and controller Conor Coventry, who mops things up at the base like a League One Carrick.
The South Londoners also have strength in reserve, especially in the number 10 role, where Jones can pick Luke Berry for his persistent pressing, but then bring on the more creative Alex Gilbert, while Chuks Aneke is also good to make a goal off the bench.
Elsewhere, the Addicks boast a centre-back in Alex Mitchell who was one of the top defenders in the division last season with Lincoln City, but can’t get in the XI because of Jones’ impeccable form, while Daniel Kanu is also an exciting talent who can bring pace up top from the bench - imagine Kanu running at veteran Omar Beckles in extra-time?
Matty Godden began his campaign some way down the pecking order, with the likes of Miles Leaburn and Gassan Ahadme favoured ahead of him, but in the second half of the campaign the former Coventry man has shown his class.
In the 29 matches in which Godden has started up top, he’s scored 16 goals; 0.55 goals per game, in other words.
And, given that the bulk of those goals have come in the second half of the season, meaning he has momentum behind him, that 12/5 looks fantastic value with Betfair.
Charlton vs Leyton Orient Predicted Lineups
Charlton appear to have no fresh injury concerns pertaining to their starting XI, which looks nailed on, while the only question mark for the Orient, presuming everyone’s fit, lies on the left wing.
Richie Wellens could start Ollie O’Neill, who is the most potent of the three contenders and doubled up well to help left-back Jack Currie last time out at Stockport as well as getting among the goals, but has only just come back from injury.
Alternatively, Randell Williams has pace to burn and a bullet long throw, but can go missing and might be more useful later on, while Azeem Abdulai can offer height against a good set piece side and cover space centrally, but is also the only alternative to striker Kelman.
