Championship Relegation Odds: A look at the prices ahead of 2021/22

Bournemouth v West Brom kickstarts a brand new season in the EFL next Friday, so today we are taking a closer look at the Championship relegation odds.
Who are favourites for the drop in 2021/22?
Derby County are strong favourites for relegation this season, but due to the perilous position the Rams currently find themselves in, bookmakers have stopped offering odds on their demotion after initially opening up at 7/4.
The East Midlands club currently has just 14 first-team players under contract and are under a transfer embargo from the EFL. At present, they look to have a severely uphill battle on their hands to remain in the country’s second-tier beyond this season.
With no prices to reflect on, we’ll move to the other favourites for the drop.
Peterborough - 3/1
League newcomers Peterborough and Blackpool both lead the betting at 3/1. Peterborough have not tasted Championship football since the 2012/13 campaign but earned promotion to the second-tier after finishing as runners-up in League One last season.
Posh operate on a much smaller budget compared to the rest of the Championship, making it hard for them to compete in the division, but that is not to say they cannot make an impact in 2021/22 with the free-scoring Jonson Clarke-Harris leading the line.
The 27-year-old was top-scorer in the third-tier last season, netting a whopping 31 goals, and will relish the opportunity of proving his worth in a higher league this campaign. It does, however, remain to be seen whether or not he will be as effective this time out and if Peterborough will have enough firepower to avoid immediate relegation.
Blackpool - 3/1
Blackpool are in a similar boat with much lesser resources than the majority of the division, but they have proven in the past that they’re capable of competing in the Championship, even earning promotion to the Premier League back in 2010.
The Tangerines were promoted via the play-offs last season, just four years after being promoted from the depths of League Two. Blackpool’s primary objective will be to avoid relegation this season and they do have plenty of quality in their squad, most notably frontman Jerry Yates - who last season finished as third-top scorer in League One with 21 goals.
Yates was linked with a move to Nottingham Forest but has penned a new three-year deal with the Lancashire club, giving them a huge boost ahead of the new campaign starting next weekend. Just like Clarke-Harris, though, time will be the decider on whether he will cut it in the Championship and help the Seasiders to remain in the division.
Huddersfield - 7/2
Elsewhere in the betting, Huddersfield are a slightly longer price at 7/2. The Terriers found themselves in contention for the drop throughout the most part of last season, in the end finishing 20th - just six points above the bottom-three. They are set for another testing campaign this time around, however, and definitely need to tighten things up defensively if they are to stand any chance of staying up.
The Yorkshire club shipped a colossal 71 goals in 2020/21, more than any side in the division. It was just fortunate that they found few issues in scoring at the other end - netting 50 times in 46 outings. This season, things might not work out as well for them but they do have the likes of talented attacking-midfielder Josh Koroma and highly-experienced goalscorer Frazier Campbell to rely on in the final-third; the pair scored a combined 15 league goals last term.
Coventry - 4/1
Coventry’s Championship relegation odds stand at 4/1 heading into the new season. The West Midlands side were another who struggled for consistency last term, but ultimately had enough about them to avoid a relegation scrap towards the final stages of the campaign.
Attackers Tyler Walker and Matt Godden are the players to look out for in the goalscorers markets this season, while midfielder Gustavo Hamer and defender Leo Ostigard can be loose cannons and are usually always good for a booking - last season picking up a combined 18 yellows and two red cards - so keep an eye on them when the Sky Blues are in action.
Rounding off the list of favourites is Luton at 9/2, recently-crowned League One champions Hull, Preston & Birmingham - each at 5/1 - and Bristol City, who are 11/2 for the drop.
