Burnley v Tottenham Tips: Kane to convert from the spot at Turf Moor

There’s two games in the Premier League on Monday evening with Tottenham visiting Burnley in the 8pm kick off which can be seen live on Sky Sports Main Event. After some impressive results in recent weeks, Jose Mourinho’s side are now just an 8/1 shot to win the league after being priced as big as 50/1 on the opening day of the season on September 12. We’ve got three football tips for the game, which could see Spurs climb to fifth in the table.
Matt Lowton faces a late fitness test for Burnley along with Erik Peters. Phil Bardsley will miss the game after testing positive for Covid-19, while Ben Mee and Jack Cork are both sidelined through injuries.
There’s competition for places at Spurs with all of Gareth Bale, Steven Bergwijn, Lucas Moura and Erik Lamela fighting for a place in a front-three with Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min. Dele Alli has been left out of the Spurs squad, with Eric Dier to be assessed closer to kick off. Joe Rodon is available for his debut if called upon.
Unsurprisingly Spurs are the favourites to win the game, priced at 1/2 with most bookmakers - an implied 67% chance of victory. Burnley, who are unbeaten in their last two home games against Spurs, can be backed at 5/1, while the the draw is available at 7/2.
Tottenham to score a penalty - 1.5pts @ 7/2 Paddy Power
Dwight McNeil to be carded - 1pt @ 13/2 Betfair, Paddy Power
Son Heung-Min 2+ shots on target, Hojbjerg & Tarkowski to be carded - 0.25pts @ 45/1 Paddy Power
It’s been another profitable weekend for my selections on BettingOdds.com with a winner from each of my game previews on Saturday and Sunday in the Premier League. On Monday evening, I’m kicking things off with Tottenham to score a penalty, priced at 7/2 with Paddy Power.
One of the main angles into this selection is that Michael Oliver will be the referee officiating the game at Turf Moor on Monday. Oliver is a man who has awarded an incredible seven penalties already this season in just five games. That’s 23% of all the penalties awarded this season and an average of 1.4 spot-kick’s a game. Even though I very much doubt Oliver’s average will be that high come the end of the season, I do think we have a good chance of a penalty being awarded this evening.
Burnley have been uninspiring so far this season and only picked up their first point of the campaign at fellow strugglers West Brom last Monday evening. Tottenham’s attack is red hot at the moment with both Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min in the form of their lives and I expect them to dominate the game and spend plenty of time in and around Burnley’s area.
The Clarets have already conceded a penalty this season and with Harry Kane on duty from twelve yards, I see him converting if given the chance. Kane has scored 21 of his 24 Premier League penalties and hasn’t missed one since back in the 2017/2018 season.
The second of three picks for the evening is Burnley’s Dwight McNeil to be carded. Both Betfair and Paddy Power have given this a boost up to the inflated price of 13/2. That’s currently the top price available with other firms such as bet365 going as short as 4/1.
20-year-old Dwight McNeil is one of the brightest talents at Burnley and the young midfielder played all 38 of their league games in the most recent campaign. McNeil was booked five times during last season and he does look slightly big in the market when you consider he could have Gareth Bale on his side of the pitch and plenty of defending to do against a team who are scoring plenty of goals.
Michael Oliver was one of only three referees to dish out over 100 yellow cards in the Premier League last season along with Mike Dean and Anthony Taylor. Oliver has brandished 16 yellows and 1 red card over the last three games he has taken charge of and I fancy McNeil to find his way into the notebook of doom tonight.
For my longshot of the evening, at 45/1 with Paddy Power, I’ve gone for Son Heung-Min to have two or more shots on target with both James Tarkowski and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to be carded.
No player has scored more in the Premier League than Son Heung-Min so far this campaign. The Korean has seven goals to his name in the first five matches and is averaging 1.8 shots on target per game. That’s a higher average than anyone in the league finished with in 19/20 and I’m fancying Son to have two or more on target against Burnley.
The first of two bookings I’ve picked out is James Tarkowski of Burnley. Despite plenty of speculation with a move away from the club over the summer, James Tarkowski remains at the heart of Sean Dyche’s defence. The centre-back picked up the most yellows of anyone in his squad last term with ten and has already had one in his first two games of this season.
One player who I’m enjoying watching at the moment is Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, he looks to really have settled under Jose Mourinho and I see him playing a huge role for Spurs over this season. The Dane is a tough tackling warrior who commits plenty of fouls. I don’t think he will have the busiest of night’s at Turf Moor, but if there’s anyone I want onside for a booking with Spurs, it’s Hojbjerg.
As I mentioned above, this game can be seen live on Sky Sports Main Event, kicking off at 8pm. Best of luck to those following the selections, please gamble responsibly.
