Borussia Dortmund v Bayern Munich Prediction: Best bets for DFL-Supercup final

Live on Sky sports, Dortmund go up against Bayern Munich this Tuesday to battle it out for the German Super Cup at the Signal Iduna Park. Dortmund kicked off their season in convincing fashion thrashing Eintracht Frankfurt 5-2 with their star man Erling Haaland grabbing the headlines with two goals and two assists. On the other hand, Bayern Munich could only manage a draw against Borussia Monchengladbach with Robert Lewandowski scoring as it finished 1-1.
Bayern Munich have a great record in this competition, winning the last four out of five editions and beating Dortmund last year in this competition as well. However, they failed to impress during the pre-season not winning a single game out of the four they played and it looks like Julian Naglesmann’s men will be provided with another tough test in this game.
Goals are always on the agenda when these two German giants meet with their last three head to head meetings going over four goals or more. We can certainly expect another thrilling encounter and I have included my three best bets for this clash in the preview below:
Team News:
Thorgan Hazard, Mateu Morey, Mats Hummels, Zagadou, Schmelzer, Wolf, Thomas Munier, Raphael Guerreiro and Julian Brandt are out for Dortmund while Emre Can, Delaney and Hitz are doubtful.
Hernandez, Pavard and Roca are out for Bayern while Tolisso is doubtful.
Dortmund possible starting lineup:
Kobel; Passlack, Witsel, Akanji, Schulz; Bellingham, Dahoud, Reyna; Hazard, Haaland, Reus
Bayern possible starting lineup:
Neuer; Sarr, Upamecano, Sule, Davies; Kimmich, Goretzka; Sane, Muller, Gnabry; Lewandowski
Borussia Dortmund v Bayern Munich Tips
- Over 0 goals in the 1st half for both teams combined
- Over 0 goals in the 2nd half for both teams combined
- Under 5 cards in the match for both teams combined
Games involving these two powerhouses have recently been full of goals. Their last three head to head meetings have seen a combined total of 16 goals with a goal being scored in both halves of all three games. The Super Cup meeting last year was ended 3-2 in Bayern’s favour with a goals in each half and I can see another goal-fest on the cards.
As for cards, I do not expect there to be too many of them. Last year’s Super Cup meeting just had one card and their last seven head to head meetings have seen under five cards. So early in the season, I do not expect heavy challenges from either side and the referee is likely to be a bit lenient in this competition as well. Combining these three selections gives us a solid Bet Builder @ 4/5 and we will back that with 1pt as our main bet.
With a goal-fest expected, the price on the BTTS market is 1.36 with most bookmakers which hardly screams of value.
We’ll target the goalscorers instead, with both Haaland and Lewandowski in prime form at the moment and the most likely scorers on the pitch for either side. The same bet is as low as 6/4 with most bookmakers so backing it at Betfair or Paddy Power represents value and we will take it with a small stake of 0.5pt.
This is obviously a longshot but you would not back against these two players to get on the scoresheet twice. 25/1 is a huge price for this considering the same bet is as low as 8/1 with other bookmakers. With 2 elite goalscorers on show, I am going to take this as my longshot for this German Super Cup Final with a very small stake of 0.25pt.
Best of luck if you follow these selections. Please always gamble responsibly.
