After opening their 2024/25 league campaigns with victories, both Bolton and Wrexham will be full of confidence heading into their clash on Sunday.
The Trotters managed to snatch a 2-1 victory at Leyton Orient in their season opener and they followed that up with a mid-week penalty shootout win over Mansfield in the EFL Cup, booking their place in the second round.
Wrexham's rise from the National League to the third-tier has been well-documented since the takeover by their Hollywood owners and they began the new campaign in typically exciting fashion, as goals from Max Cleworth, Jack Marriott and Steven Fletcher secured a 3-2 home win over Wycombe.
However, the Welsh outfit were beaten 4-2 by Sheffield United in the EFL Cup and that defeat may still be fresh in the mind of the Red Dragons heading into this contest.
Having lost in the play-off final last season, Bolton will be eager to make amends for that disappointment, with automatic promotion the main goal this term.
Home form could be crucial this season and it bodes well that Wanderers boasted the best League One record at home in 2023/24, winning 15 times and losing just three matches.
Bolton often save their best football when playing in front of a raucous home crowd and that should spell trouble for Wrexham, who lost seven league games on the road last season.
The Red Dragons amassed the fourth-best away points haul in League Two in the previous campaign with 34, behind Stockport, Mansfield and Bradford City, but they will need to improve on their travels against higher-level opposition this season.
Five of Bolton’s last seven competitive home matches have seen both teams find the net, while the same bet has landed in Wrexham’s last three competitive assignments, and the duo can both get on the scoresheet in what should ultimately end up being a win for Wanderers at 13/5 with bet365.
In Dion Charles and Victor Adeboyejo, Bolton have two clinical strikers leading the line, but a chance is taken on the latter to open his home account for the season.
The Nigerian scored 10 league goals last season, eight of those coming at home, and he is already off the mark in this campaign after notching the winner at Leyton Orient.
In what promises to be an attacking contest, Abeboyejo looks a tempting bet to get on the scoresheet at 2/1 with bet365.
