Birmingham City are in great form, having gone 18 games unbeaten, yet it would still be viewes as a big shock if they were to overcome Newcastle this weekend, even though the Premier League visitors are likely to field a much-changed side to the one that beat Arsenal.
This promises to be a competitive encounter, and I’m starting the 8/1 Bet Builder with Both Teams to Score (BTTS). Birmingham have only failed to score in three of their 38 league and cup matches this season, finding the net in 25 of their last 26. Meanwhile, Newcastle have scored in 16 consecutive matches and in 13 of their last 14 away games, securing wins against Arsenal, Tottenham, Man United, and Nottingham Forest in the process.
Next, I’m backing Newcastle to win. The Magpies have been superb on the road, with eight wins and two draws from their last 10 away games. They also boast an eight-match unbeaten streak against Birmingham, winning five of those meetings.
Player shots on target is another market that looks promising. Will Osula will hope to feature after scoring in the 3-1 win over Bromley, and whether he starts up front or on the wing, he should play a key role in Newcastle’s attack. Meanwhile, Birmingham’s Jay Stansfield has been in lethal form, bagging 18 goals in 27 games since his high-profile summer move, five of which have been scored in domestic cup competitions. Both players look solid picks for Over 0.5 Shots on Target.
Finally, Newcastle’s attacking quality means Birmingham’s goalkeeper Ryan Allsop could be in for a busy afternoon. At 10/11, backing him to make Over 3.5 saves offers great value.
