Betting Stories: Kane and Son combine to cost bookies a fortune yet again

It’s been another action packed day in the Premier League with 16 goals flying in across Sunday’s four games. Here at BettingOdds.com we’re continuing our series looking back at some of the best winners or most unfortunate losers we have seen from the punting world over the last seven days.
Deadly Duo
With a 2-0 win in the North London Derby on Sunday, Spurs soared back to the top of the Premier League table thanks to two goals from Son Heung-Min and Harry Kane. It’s been a familiar story this season with both players enjoying some of the best form of their career, racking up the goals and assists for Mourinho’s side.
A remarkable eight of Son Heung-Min’s ten league goals this season have been assisted by monsieur Kane. No other pairing has more than three goals this season, however one of those pairings with three goals is again, Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min, this time with the Korean providing three of the England International’s eight league goals.
Premier League Assist to Goal scorer
-
8, Son Heung-Min assisted by Harry Kane
-
3, Harry Kane assisted by Son Heung-Min
-
3, Patrick Bamford assisted by Mateusz Klich
-
3, Ollie Watkins assisted by Jack Grealish
-
3, Dominic Calvert-Lewin assisted by Lucas Digne
The performances of Kane and Son have resulted in the duo scoring 78% of Tottenham’s goals in the Premier League this season. Punters we’re once again in dream-land after the 75/1 double of Son to score assisted by Kane and Kane to score assisted by Son landed against Arsenal.
Return the favour
William Hill had odds of 75/1 available for this double yesterday with Sky bet going slightly shorter at 50/1 in their ‘return the favour’ market. Remarkably, this is the third time in 11 league games that the Son & Kane to score and assist each other has landed in the 2020/2021 season. This has been one of the most popular selections for casual gamblers with plenty bringing out the trumpet to post their winners on social media.
It was in the 13th minute against Arsenal in the capital on Sunday, where Harry Kane rolled a pass in his own half to Son Heun-Min, before the 28-year-old darted down the line before cutting inside to curl the ball into the far corner of Bernd Leno’s goal from 25 yards.
With one half of the double already in, a free-flowing counter attack gave those lucky enough to have placed the bet that crowning moment, as Son Heung-Min slid the ball into Harry Kane on the left side of the penalty area before the Tottenham captain slammed the ball off the crossbar and into the Arsenal goal.
Punters were in clover as the Kane & Son double landed at 75/1 with William Hill, just as it had on two previous occasions already this season. With such a potent partnership at the head of proceedings, bookmakers will surely be wary of the duo and could shorten the odds significantly ahead of Tottenham’s trip to Crystal Palace next Sunday.

Future Betting
After starting the season at around 16/1, Harry Kane is now the 3/1 favourite to win this season’s PFA player of the year award with his teammate Son Heung-Min also being as cut to as short as 7/1 with some firms after being 80/1 before a ball was kicked this term.
With 19 goal involvements already this season for Harry Kane it’s easy to make a case for him in the player of the year, however on a week by week basis it could pay to follow Kane in the ‘anytime assist market. We’ve tipped up Kane to provide an assist twice already this season on BettingOdds.com, both at odds of 5/1, and although we have seen his price shorten in recent weeks it could be worth following Kane here rather than in the goalscorers markets.
It was Son Heung-Min’s tenth league goal this season against Arsenal, with only Dominic Calvert-Lewin having netted more this term with 11. The Korean is available at 10/1 in the Premier League top-scorer market which could still be worth a play with four each-way at places available from bet365.
The Koreans finishing has been phenomenal this campaign and of all the players to have scored at least three goals Son Heung-Min has the best conversion rate with 63% of his attempts resulting in a goal and 81% hitting the target. With stats like these I’d avoid backing Son in the shots on target market and would focus more on the ‘anytime scorer’ market. This proved profitable for us here at BettingOdds.com on Sunday as we recommended backing Son to score at 7/4 rather than taking the 6/5 that was available for him to have two or more shots on target. With one goal from just one shot on target against Arsenal, this approach proved profitable and would be one we would look to in future games.
