Same Game Multi Betting Explained

The different that ways punters can bet on football continues to expand year upon year and now one of the most popular types is by creating a Same Game Multi. Our resident tipster and columnist @Anthony Eadson answers a few questions around what seems to be an ever growing trend in the industry.
What is a Same Game Multi?
This is where people can create an accumulator style bet by combining different outcomes or propositions for the same football game. This gives punters a much easier way to manually create their own bet which can often have very high returns off a small stake.
Do different bookmakers call this style of betting different names?
Yes, different bookmakers often refer to this type of bet in different ways as they try to put their own marketing spin on it. Here are a few of those listed below from some of the main firms.
Betfair - Same Game Multi
Paddy Power - Same Game Multi
Bet365 - Bet Builder
William Hill - Build #YourOdds
888 Sport - Bet Builder
BetVictor - Bet Builder
SkyBet - Request A Bet (RAB)
Coral - Build Your Bet
So what can be included in a Same Game Multi?
The selection of markets which can be combined to create multiple selections in one bet differs from bookmaker to bookmaker. However with such growth around this area, firms will be continuing to develop and improve products over the coming years. I’ve listed below some of those most common elements that can be combined in these bets.
-
Match Result
-
Over / Under goals
-
Goalscorers
-
Player shots on target
-
Player to be carded
-
Over / Under corners
-
Match handicap
The variety from different bookmaking firms continues to grow and with the expansion into areas such as, amount of goal kicks, assists, and player tackles, providing punters potentially profitable opportunities as the variety of elements to bet on widens.
So which bookmaker do you like using most for Same Game Multi’s?
My bookmakers of choice when it comes to this style of bet are Betfair, Paddy Power and bet365. Since the merger of Betfair and Paddy Power in 2016, you may have noticed their prices and range of markets on football games being the same, and when it comes to manually building your own bet, the same applies here.
Betfair / Paddy Power
One of the main draws for me here with Betfair and Paddy Power is the ability to combine player shots on target into ‘Same Game Multi’s’. Only a few bookmakers currently offer the ability to combine these player proposition markets such as shots on targets and these two firms consistently offer prices on a full selection of squad players to do so.
With the Premier League you can expect the markets to be up and available to bet often at least 24 hours in advance before the event. This can often create opportunities to jump on a potentially inflated price that could go off shorter when the event actually starts. I’ve had some success myself personally in the back end of the season landing 40/1 and 66/1 winners which can be seen here on our the BettingOdds.com recent winners page. These are good examples of how a combination of just two individual shots on target and two players to be carded can be combined to give a big return.
Betfair and Paddy Power both have excellent interfaces on their website and app which I find easy to navigate. They both offer consistent markets and for me I find them top-priced the most in the shots on target market which I like to focus on.
Bet365
My other bookmaker of choice in this area is bet365. The Stoke-based betting giant, has a strong bet builder tool with a good range of markets that can be combined together. Always respectfully priced on the major football league’s, 365 has a strong product here that appeals to bettors of varying experience.
The total number of free-kicks and goal-kicks is one of their latest additions to the growing list of markets that are included in the bet builder tool, but my favourite feature from the company is that you can combine bet builders into further multiples across a number of games. This for example is where you could collect one player to score and one player to be carded from four different games and then potentially put those bet builders into a four-fold accumulator taking the potential returns to a high level.
I had some success with this feature from bet365 myself this season putting two bet builders into a double at the price of 1044/1. It’s a shame this one landed from placing the last 50p in my account and not with a bigger stake but that’s not the way to look back on the past. A return of over £500 from just a 50p stake shows that the big priced winners can be found and combining bet builders across several games is an area I will be focusing more upon across the coming season
What happens if a player doesn’t start involved in my bet?
When involving player proposition selections in your bets it can often be worth waiting until an hour before kick-off when team news is released to see if they are starting the game. If you are going to bet before that I’d recommend doing so on a market where either your selection will be void, or where a full cash-out will be available to retrieve the stake where that player not to start.
Below we have put together what happens with the different firms if the player involved is left out.
-
Bet365 - bet will be voided
-
Betfair - bet will stand if the player plays any part in the game
-
Paddy Power - bet will stand if the player plays any part in the game
-
Unibet - bet will stand if the player plays any part in the game
-
William Hill - bet will be voided
-
888 Sport - bet will stand if the player plays any part in the game
-
Coral - bet will be voided
-
Skybet - bet will stand if the player plays any part in the game
Overall thoughts?
I’ve always been a firm believer that the best way to profit-long term in football betting is to bet on single selections and when you believe something to have a greater chance of happening than the odds imply.
Those bookmakers who set the odds take a margin for themselves on the odds of something happening. So as a result of combining numerous selections into accumulator form with a Same Game Multi, the odds are then multiplied against you the punter even further, even if your potential winnings are bigger.
I’m very aware that all different types of punters are out there from the casual to the professional and one thing I’ve learnt from this season is that big wins can come from the small stakes bets such as the 1044/1 shot earlier in the year. My advice would be to keep the amount of selections to a minimum in your multiples, and to try and find the selections that appear to have value. By combining numerous selections that are overpriced you are multiplying the odds even more in your favour and should be looking to do that as much as possible.
The ability to create these long-odds jackpot style bets it’s something that was once only possible on a Saturday at 3pm for football punters. There’s no denying that placing these optimistic bet builders on a game can be fun and create a high level of excitement for the customer. As always though with gambling please remember to do so in a responsible manner and if you feel you have a problem please use the tools available at the disposal from all bookmakers.
