Barcelona vs Bayern Munich Prediction, Odds and Betting Tips: Back this 15/1 double on Wednesday night

Wednesday night’s Champions League slate sees a mammoth clash between two juggernauts of the European game in Barcelona and Bayern Munich. Matthew O’Regan has two best bets coming in at 8/1 and 15/1.

Barcelona opted to appoint Hansi Flick as their new manager in the summer, his first job since his turgid spell in charge of the German national side. Flick cemented himself as one of the greatest managers in Bayern Munich’s prestigious history by delivering the sextuple while at the club. In total he won seven trophies – the same amount of games he lost as manager.  

Barcelona have started the La Liga season almost flawlessly, winning nine of their 10 opening games, a shock 4-2 loss at Osasuna the only blight on their record.  

The return to the first team squad for the first time in nearly a year for Gavi was a welcome sight for the ‘culers’, but they still have a host of injuries to contend with. Andreas Christensen, Eric Garcia, Ferran Torres, Marc Bernal, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, and Ronald Araujo are all unavailable.  

Bayern Munich are also under the guise of a new manager, with the ownership taking a huge risk in appointing Vincent Kompany, who was recently relegated from the Premier League with Burnley.  

In the league, they are top and unbeaten, winning five and drawing two of their seven games. They started their Champions League campaign with a 9-2 win over Dinamo Zagreb; becoming the first side in Champions League history to score at least nine goals in a single game.  

They then lost 1-0 at Aston Villa, leaving them 15th, one place above Wednesday’s opponents.  

Like Barca, Munich have multiple injury concerns, with Aleksandar Pavlovic, Hiroki Ito, Josip Stanisic and Sacha Boey all out.

La Masia has become a breeding ground for the next generation of Barcelona players, with new stars seemingly being produced every week. 

One such player is Marc Casado, who has displaced Frenkie De Jong in the side and filled the void left by the injury to Gavi. He has played the full 90 in both Champions League games this season, committing four fouls and getting booked. The 21-year-old then made two fouls without getting booked in the drubbing over Young Boys. 

Dayot Upamecano has had a strong start to the season under Vincent Kompany. However, the 25-year-old has already been booked more times this in the Bundesliga this season than he did last. He has made 1.45 fouls per 90 in the league, averaging 0.44 fouls per 90. 

In the 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa, the French international was lucky not to be shown a red card after bringing down Ollie Watkins. He will be given the difficult task of marking Robert Lewandowski, who is winning 1.45 fouls per 90 in the league and 1.74 in the Champions League. Five centre-backs have been booked against Barcelona this season.

Under Hansi Flick, Barcelona have been dominant, winning nine of their 10 games. Barca have been strong going forward, scoring 33 goals in 10 games - the most in the league by 12 goals.  

They’ve also conceded 10 goals, with their games averaging 4.3 goals. In the Champions League, their games have seen an average of four goals, losing 2-1 to Monaco and beating Young Boys 5-0. Barca are blessed with a host of attacking talent, with Robert Lewandowski (12 goals), Raphinha (five goals) and Lamine Yamal (four goals) bright spots.  

Barcelona have seen over 2.5 goals in 11 of their 12 games this season. 

Bayern Munich, as ever, have been free-flowing in attack, scoring 24 goals in just seven games for an average of 3.43 goals scored. They’ve also conceded one goal per game. All four of their league games have seen at least three goals.  

Free-flowing, attacking football is engrained in both clubs’ DNA, so we should see both sides attacking from the off. If the game is attacking as expected, Both Teams To Score in Both Halves present good value.
