Aston Villa vs Everton Predictions
Aston Villa vs Everton Preview
After defying the odds by coming fourth in the Premier League last year, Aston Villa will be playing in the Champions League this season, with their first fixture coming on Tuesday at Stadion Wankdorf against Young Boys.
Unai Emery’s side currently sits 7th in the league, with a 0-2 home loss to Arsenal sandwiched in between 1-2 away wins at West Ham and Leicester respectively.
Ollie Watkins, who scored 27 goals last season in all competitions, is yet to score this campaign, with Jhon Duran and new signing Amadou Onana both scoring twice.
Villa have an extensive injury list, with Boubacar Kamara, Leon Bailey, Matty Cash and Tyrone Mings still out. Jaden Philogene-Bidace, Ezri Konsa and Diego Carlos are all touch-and-go with knocks. This means Emery faces a tough decision in choosing between Lamare Bogarde and Kosta Nedelijkovic for the right-back role.
Everton have had a disastrous start to the season, losing all three matches in embarrassing circumstances. They opened their season in front of an expectant Goodison Park, facing Brighton and Hove Albion in a new era under Fabian Hurzler. The Toffees were outclassed in losing 0-3 to the Seagulls, before following this up with a 4-0 loss at Tottenham.
A home match against Bournemouth seemed the perfect opportunity to get their first points of the season. Michael Keane and Dominic Calvert-Lewin had fired Sean Dyche’s side into an early second-half lead and the three points looked to be theirs, until Antoine Semenyo (87), Lewis Cook (92) and Luis Sinisterra (94) inspired a historic comeback.
Everton have some injury issues themselves, with star defender Jarrad Branthwaite still out injured, alongside new signing Armando Broja, full-backs Nathan Patterson and Seamus Coleman and young forward Yousseff Chermiti.
Under Unai Emery, Aston Villa like to play a high line and force turnovers in advantageous areas. They have several hard-working, tough-tacklers in their team, such as Amadou Onana and John McGinn, with their tackling numbers reflecting this: In their three games this season, Aston Villa have had 24, 22 and 17 tackles.
As is typical with a Sean Dyche side, Everton are also aggressive in the tackle. So far in the season, Everton have had 23, 29 and 17 tackles. The Toffees also averaged just under 20 tackles per game last season, so have previous for it.
In terms of drawing tackles, Villa have drawn 14,17 and 22, while Everton have drawn 21,22 and 26 tackles. It should be a boisterous atmosphere at Villa Park between two passionate teams and fanbases. Considering both teams’ averages this season, the tackle line looks to be priced a little too low.

Aston Villa and Everton did some business in the summer, with Amadou Onana joining Villa for a big fee, while Lewis Dobbin and Tim Iroegbunam were involved in a swap deal.
While Dobbin was loaned to West Brom, Onana and Iroegbunam have been pivotal figures in Villa and Everton’s midfield thus far.
Onana has scored twice in three starts, while Iroegbunam has been a rare bright spark for the Toffees.
In the opening-day victory over West Ham, Onana made a foul. In the next two starts, he made two and four fouls, being booked in both games.
Mats Wieffer made two fouls, while James Milner made one and was booked in the opener against Everton. While no midfielder was booked for Tottenham, James Maddison made two fouls, as did Lewis Cook for Bournemouth.
Iroegbunam has been booked in his last two starts for the Toffees. He has played every minute of Everton’s Premier League campaign, averaging three fouls a game. When Villa played West Ham, Lucas Paqueta made three fouls and was booked, while Guido Rodriguez made two.
Against Arsenal, Thomas Partey made three fouls but was not booked. However, Declan Rice and Martin Ødegaard were both booked. Then in the victory over Leicester, Oliver Skipp and Harry Winks were both booked, meaning five centre midfielders have been booked against Aston Villa in just three matches.
Due to the defensive injuries, Lamare Bogarde was drafted in to play right back. The 20-year-old made three fouls and was booked in his 79 minutes on the pitch. The last two right-backs to play against Everton in the Premier League made two fouls.
It should be a feisty match, and the young trio are priced at 45/1 to all be carded.
