Arsenal vs Real Madrid Prediction
Arsenal vs Real Madrid Preview
The hosts finished third in the league stages of this competition before dismantling PSV 9-3 on aggregate in the round of 16 stage. Injuries to key attackers Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus have affected their form in the Premier League where they have only managed to win two of their last six league games, handing Liverpool a huge advantage in the title race. However, with Bukayo Saka now back fit they will be hoping he can cause the Spanish Giants problems and help them cause a major upset.
As for Real Madrid, they are comfortably the most successful team in the history of the competition having won the Champions League a record 15 times. They finished 11th in the league stages with 15 points, winning their last five games in a row in the league phase of the competition. They were then involved in an extremely competitive round of 16 tie against Atletico Madrid, knocking them out on penalties to set up this quarterfinal against Arteta’s men and will be favourites to progress to semi-finals over two legs.
These two sides came up against each other in the Champions League round of 16 stages of the 2006 edition, with Arsenal knocking Madrid out courtesy of a Thierry Henry goal at the Bernabeu Stadium. However, Arsenal have been dealt a huge blow with their key defender Gabriel Magalhaes also out injured for the rest of the season who has been a major reason for Arsenal’s resolute defence this season so I expect the Spanish giants to be too strong for the English outfit over two legs.
Arsenal vs Real Madrid Betting Tips
Real Madrid have been vulnerable in defence in recent weeks, but that has not stopped them from getting goals at the other end of the pitch. They have scored a goal in 14 of their last 15 games in all competitions while Arsenal have also conceded in five of their last six games in all competitions. With Arsenal’s most important defender Gabriel out injured, Kiwior is likely to start and I expect him to struggle against the pace of Kylian Mbappe. The Spanish giants have so much firepower in attack, with the likes of Bellingham, Rodrygo and Vinicius also huge attacking threats and I expect them to get on the scoresheet at least once on Tuesday night.
William Saliba will have a very tough task of going up against the likes of Vinicius and Mbappe who love to take on their opponents and that should present Saliba with a lot of tackling opportunities. He is averaging 1.86 tackles per game in the Champions League, making a tackle in six of his seven Champions League games this season. He has also made a tackle in 25 of his 29 Premier League appearances, averaging 1.8 tackles per game and this is a perfect matchup to target his tackles.
For the final selection, Eduardo Camavinga is expected to start in midfield for Real Madrid with Tchouameni suspended. He has committed a foul in eight of his nine La Liga starts, as he goes into tackles aggressively always trying to win the ball back for his side. He has committed seven fouls in just his four Champions League away games in this campaign and up against a strong Arsenal midfield of Declan Rice, Odegaard & Partey, I expect Camavinga to get stuck in and commit a couple of fouls.
Jurrien Timber is expected to be up against one of the trickiest wingers in the world Vinicius Junior who loves to take on and beat his opponents in a one-on-one battle. With Arsenal more likely to control possession at the Emirates, Real Madrid will look towards Vinicius for their counter attacks and being one of the most fouled players in the world, it is highly likely he will have to be fouled cynically by Jurrien Timber in transition at some point in this game.
The reason why we are getting such a big price is that Timber will miss the second leg if he gets booked here, but Timber is not the sort of player who backs away from his natural game which is putting in aggressive tackles so we are getting a great price of 5/1 that we will take with a small 0.25pt stake as our second bet for this game.
