The Gunners are reeling from a heart-wrenching 1-0 defeat in the Champions League against Porto, conceding a late goal in the first leg of their last-16 tie. Despite a historic five-game winning streak in the Premier League and a dominant 5-0 victory over Burnley, Mikel Arteta's side remains in third place, one point behind Manchester City and five behind Liverpool. Arsenal, with the division's tightest defence, are aiming for a third consecutive Premier League home win and the chance to rectify their European setback.
Thomas Partey, back in team training following a thigh operation, didn't make the cut for the first leg against Porto. Gabriel Jesus (knee), Takehiro Tomiyasu (knock), and Oleksandr Zinchenko (calf) were also absent, and Arteta remains tight-lipped about their conditions, making their return for Saturday uncertain. ACL victim Jurrien Timber remains a long-term absentee for Arsenal, leaving Arteta with decisions on midfield rotations, possibly including Jorginho and Emile Smith Rowe.
Newcastle, in contrast, come to the Emirates after securing a dramatic 2-2 draw against Bournemouth, extending their unbeaten streak. Entertaining fans with thrilling encounters, the Magpies have showcased resilience and attacking prowess. With wins against Nottingham Forest and a goal-packed 3-2 victory over Luton Town, Eddie Howe's side is on the upswing after a challenging period from December to January. Although a Champions League spot appears distant, Newcastle sit eighth in the table, eyeing the Europa positions. Despite defensive challenges, the Magpies have scored in their last six Premier League outings. As they head to North London, Newcastle aim to build on their recent successes, knowing they previously held Arsenal to a 0-0 draw last January and secured a fiery 1-0 triumph at St James' Park in November.
Newcastle faced Bournemouth without the services of a recognized striker due to Callum Wilson's pectoral injury, sidelining him for approximately 12 weeks. Although Alexander Isak (groin) nears a return, boosting the offensive options, former Arsenal protege Joe Willock might also make a comeback from a calf problem at his old ground. While Fabian Schar has resumed training after a wrist injury, Sandro Tonali (suspended), Nick Pope (shoulder), Matt Targett (thigh), Joelinton (thigh), and Elliot Anderson (back) remain unavailable.
Arsenal vs Newcastle Tips
Midweek against Porto was the first time in fourteen games where the England winger has failed to register over 1.5 shots, managing just one in a game where Arsenal were reduced to just seven shots.
Saka has averaged 3.92 shots per game across this period with a whopping 55 shots, with ten shots against Liverpool in three matches and another impressive three shots against Villa.
Newcastle are relatively shot shy on their travels, and in a game that will be extremely tough travelling to the Emirates, I think the unders look a good play; even more so without a recognised striker.
In sixteen away games this season, Newcastle have gone under this line eleven times, only going over against Villa, Luton, Everton, Wolves and Sheffield United. Arsenal at home have only conceded more than ten shots on two occasions across their last eleven home games, one of which being Liverpool who register the most shots per game in the Premier league.
Now these are quite extravagant but also look generous prices if Trossard starts as a central striker again, which is likely with Jesus missing out midweek.
If you are looking to go for an even bigger price - which did in fact land back in November - you could back Trossard to score a header at 50/1 as he is still being priced up as a winger here.
His headed shots will naturally see an increase playing a more central role and being in the box more often than normal. He had a huge chance to bag another via this method a few weeks back against West ham where he put a free header over the bar from 10 yards.
Against this Newcastle side who will likely be passive at the Emirates, I expect quite a few balls into the box which with Arsenal ranking 4th for crosses in the Premier League should see chances come Trossard's way.
