Arsenal vs Brentford Preview
Arsenal come into this game off the back of a famous 3-0 win over Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League quarter final. Declan Rice scored two unbelievable free kicks, before Mikel Merino lashed home to make it three.
Sat 11 points off leaders Liverpool and minimal games left, Mikael Arteta may choose to rotate his squad and rest his key players as they head to the Bernabeu to hold onto their lead.
At home, only Liverpool have a better record than the Gunners who have taken 34 points at the Emirates, scoring 30 goals and conceding 12. Arsenal ran out comfortable 1-3 winners at the GTECH Community Stadium earlier in the season and will certainly take a similar result on Saturday as they look to keep their slim title hopes alive.
A season that had potential to see Brentford finish in European places for the first time in their history, has petered out and they look set for another bottom half finish. The Bees are currently six points off European places and face a tough run of fixtures.
Before the 2-1 loss at Newcastle, Brentford had won five away games in a row- their only away wins of the season. Thomas Frank’s side only took their first away points of the season on 23rd November with a 0-0 draw at Everton, so they may struggle against a strong Arsenal side.
Arsenal vs Brentford Betting Tips
With fitness issues lingering over Jurrien Timber, Ben White may be afforded a start on his road to recovery from injury. The 27-year-old is only averaging 1.25 tackles per 90 this season, but faces Kevin Schade – a player who draws a lot of tackles from his opponents. Over the last 15 games, 13 right backs have made at least two tackles against Brentford for an average of three tackles per game. With White just coming back from injury, he may struggle against the busy Bees’ winger.
Due to injuries to full backs, Keane Lewis-Potter has been converted to a left back. The 24-year-old is averaging 1.41 tackles per 90, making at least two in his last three starts. However, like the Ben White bet, he is facing a player who draws a lot of tackles.
Bukayo Saka will most likely be given at least 45 minutes in the match as Arteta ensures he is ready to face Madrid. The 23-year-old drew two tackles and a foul from David Alaba on his first starts back against Real Madrid. In his 20 starts this season, a left back has hit at least two tackles (super sub included) in 18 games, making a foul in 16. Left backs against Saka average 3.55 tackles and 1.05 fouls per 90, so Lewis Potter is in for a long evening.
