Ante Post Tips 2023/24: Salah the stand out selection for Most Assists
The new football season is just around the corner and and after a summer break Tom Winch has provided us with his best ante-post bet. Read below about his favourite fancy for the forthcoming campaign.
Premier League Most Assists - Mo Salah @ 14/1 (bet365)
Outright betting isn’t easy at all, there are many variables to consider in each and every market but the excitement couldn’t be bigger, especially if you find a big odds punt that looks like a cracker. We’re all tempted to back something outrageous but keeping it realistic is somewhat important, and that’s what I’ve done with this 14/1 shot.
Mo Salah has been one of, if not the best player in the Premier League since his arrival from Roma in June 2017, with the £36.5m fee looks like an absolute bargain and there are no signs that he’s beginning to slow down. The Egyptian bagged 19 goals and recorded 12 assists in the 22/23 Premier League campaign.
As we take a look at the top assists market and there’s no surprise to see Kevin De Bruyne as the heavy favourite, the Belgian is priced at 7/4, despite his immense class, it just looks a little short. Trent Alexander Arnold (8/1), Bruno Fernandes (10/1), Bukayo Saka (12/1) and Jack Grealish (12/1) are all priced shorter than the Liverpool forward ahead of the 23/24 campaign.
Salah’s numbers have been remarkably consistent, he’s recorded double-figure assists in four of his six seasons under Jurgen Klopp. This selection was a winner in the 21/22 campaign. Across those six campaigns, Salah has missed just 10 league matches, he featured in all 38 in the season just gone where Liverpool as a whole were disappointing.
I’m expecting the Reds to score for fun in 2023/24, they have a fantastic forward line. Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz can all produce moments of quality. The additions of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai in midfield also pose a goal threat meaning they’ll be plenty of opportunities for our man to set them up for his teammates.
Salah could’ve easily had many more assists last campaign but Darwin Nunez’s finishing at times was pretty poor, to say the least. The Uruguayan took a season to get into his groove when he was in Portugal with Benfica and that could be the case this campaign. Nunez has bagged four goals in three friendly games over pre-season with Mo assisting three of them, the future looks promising.
I believe the 14/1 punt holds some value, the Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland combo will be tough to beat but I feel we have every chance here. If Jurgen Klopp can get his forwards ticking, they’ll be a huge threat to any side in the division on their day.
With Salah expected to be one of the first names on the team sheet, playing alongside a whole host of attacking talent in what’s expected to be a high-scoring season, the assists should come thick and fast. The squad has lots to prove after a huge dip in performance and results from the previous campaign.
