Canelo vs Plant Betting Preview: Back The Mexican King To Make History

There’s a huge fight in Las Vegas this weekend to determine the Undisputed Super-Middleweight Champion of the World. Canelo Alvarez, the pound-for-pound King, the four-weight world champion, is on a mission to complete an unbelievable 11 months in the super-middleweight rankings, by capturing the final title on his quest, the IBF strap. That title is held by undefeated American, Caleb Plant.
Canelo vs Plant Tips:
For UK fight fans, it’ll be a similar scenario to previous big fights, with the main card of the fight starting at 1am on Sunday morning, with the main event not due until at least 4am. Here in the UK, you’ll be able to watch the fight on BT Sport Box Office, for £19.95.
To absolutely no-one's surprise, Canelo is the huge favourite for this bout, coming in at 1/12 with most bookies. Plant has been extremely confident heading into the weekend, but his confidence isn’t matched by the bookmakers, who have him at 7/1, with the draw priced at the ever popular 25/1. So, without further ado, let’s have a dive into the markets to see what we can find…
Unfortunately for Caleb Plant, he may end up seeing a more fired-up Canelo Alvarez than we’ve ever seen before. A few choice words from ‘Sweethands’ in the press conference led him to sustaining a nasty cut below his eye. One thing you should never do, is slander a Mexican’s mother. Trust me people, it doesn’t end well. The build-up to this fight has shown that Canelo is taking this more personally than with previous fights, and his power and precision, along with that extra fire, could give Plant some serious issues in the first few rounds, with 7/2 looking a great price to start with.
Continuing on from the previous point, it really feels like Canelo is going to come into this fight fired up. Alvarez has only won in rounds 1-6 in two of his last six fights, but Plant has never come close to facing anyone on the Mexican’s level. As alluded to before, Alvarez is coming into this fight revved up, and their brief altercation at the press conference showed Canelo’s speed and power, and 11/4 seems like a good price for Alvarez to blow Plant out of the water.
“I feel that the first couple of rounds will be difficult but then, as the fight progresses, in Rounds 7. 8. 9, I feel I am going to be able to get him out of there,”. Canelo’s own words there, which shows how confident he is of a win there, and who are we to argue against him? In Alvarez’s last fight against Billy Joe Saunders, Saunders was forced to retire at the end of the eighth round following an onslaught by the Mexican. If Plant can live through the first six rounds, expect Canelo’s quality to show, and 10/3 would be a great price for Alvarez’s own prediction to come through.
