Ajax v Liverpool Tips: Trust in Tadic to hit the target in Amsterdam

Liverpool make the trip over to Holland on Wednesday to face Ajax in Amsterdam. It’s the first Champions League game of the season for both sides who have been drawn in Group D, along with Atalanta and Danish side Midtjylland. We’ve got three football tips for the game which kicks off at 20:00 and can be seen live on BT Sport 2.
Ajax look to be at full strength for the game with no injury concerns to worry about. Quincy Promes and Antony could come back into the side after only being used from the bench at the weekend.
Liverpool will be without Virgil van Dijk after the season ending ACL injury he picked up in the Merseyside derby. Fabinho could slot in at centre-back alongside Joe Gomez if Joel Matip is not fit. Thiago, Alisson and Naby Keita will all be assessed before the game with the Brazilian goalkeepers injury not being as bad as first expected.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are the favourites for the game, priced at 8/11 for the win - an implied probability of 58%. The draw can be backed at 16/5, with a win for Ajax priced at 7/2 with most firms.
Liverpool to win & both teams to score - 1.5pts @ 7/4 Paddy Power / Betfair
Dusan Tadic 2+ shots on target - 1pt @ 4/1 Paddy Power / Betfair
Mane & Tadic 1+ shot on target, Blind & Gomez to be carded - 0.25pts @ 40/1 Paddy Power
The first of three selections I’ve picked out for the game is Liverpool to win and both teams to score, priced at 7/4 with Paddy Power. The Premier League champions started last season with a superb defensive record, however this season they have conceded two or more goals in three of their first five league games. Added to this, the club are now without Virgil van Dijk for the rest of the season after he suffered an ACL injury in the game against Everton last weekend.
I did think Liverpool played well in the Merseyside derby and if they play like that in Amsterdam on Wednesday, they should win. They recorded 22 shots in that game and I think this should be another goal-fest, with over 2.5 goals being offered as short as 2/5 from some bookmakers. Liverpool have the quality to win the game but I do think Ajax can get on the scoresheet.
The Dutch giants are producing another strong young side, filled with talent. They play attractive football and it should be a good game for the neutral. The experienced Dusan Tadic, along with Quincy Promes, David Neres and Brazilian, Antony, can all cause the Reds problems. With both teams not looking solid at the back of late, Liverpool to win and both teams to score looks the wise play here at 7/4.
Next up I’m fancying Dusan Tadic to have two or more shots on target in the game, priced at 4/1 with both Betfair and Paddy Power. Since the start of the 2018/19 season the 31-year-old has scored an impressive 42 league goals for Ajax, almost half of his career total. It’s clear since making the move across the north sea that Tadic has flourished and there is even talk that he may take up a position as a false nine against Liverpool on Wednesday evening.
This season has started well for the Serbian and he already has three goals and two assists in the Eredivisie. The forward has registered two or more shots on target in three of his five league games this season. He’s the penalty taker for Ajax and with Sky Bet having the same selection priced at 9/4, I’ll be taking advantage of the 4/1 showing from Paddy Power.
My longshot for the game comes in the form of Sadio Mane and Dusan Tadic to have one or more shots on target, with both Daley Blind and Joe Gomez to be carded. This is available at 40/1 with Paddy Power.
Sadio Mane found the back of the net after just three minutes in the Merseyside derby with a lovely finish from an Andy Robertson cross. The Senegal International has registered eight shots on target in four league games so far this campaign and looks primed for another against Ajax.
As I mentioned above, Dusan Tadic looks the value selection of the Ajax players in the shots on target market. He’s 4/5 to have one or more shots on target, and also being on penalties, that looks too big for me with Sky Bet going 4/9.
Moving onto the cards and first player I’m fancying to find their way into the notebook is Ajax’s Daley Blind. I fear for the 30-year-old on Wednesday that he could struggle against the pace of Liverpool’s front three. Blind has been booked twice already in the first five games off this season and could well pick up his third against the Reds.
The final element of this Same Game Multi is Joe Gomez to be carded. No player picked up more yellow cards in the league for Liverpool last season than Gomez with seven. The 23-year-old is yet to get off the mark yet this campaign and I’m backing him to end that run against Ajax.
Best of luck to those who are following the selections. Please always make sure to gamble responsibly.
