Aintree Grand National Tips 2023: The Big Breakaway can land the biggest race of them all

It's Grand National day on Saturday at Aintree with 40 horses bidding to win one of the most prestigious prizes in Horse Racing. Izzy Phillips has shared her picks for the day's events with five selections that you can read more about below.
Aintree Grand National Tips
15:35 JRL Group Liverpool Hurdle
Selection: Home By The Lee
Home By The Lee had been so impressive this season having won impressively at both Navan and Leopardstown beating quite a few of his rivals here including the eventual Cheltenham Stayers Hurdle winner Sire Du Berlais. The 5th for Home By The Lee looks disappointing on the face of it but he made a bad mistake in gruelling conditions but was staying on well in the finish despite this. Barring any jumping errors he has the ability to win this and I am confident he should bounce back.
16:15 William Hill Handicap Chase (Registered As The Freebooter Handicap Chase)
Selection: Kinondo Kwetu
Kinondo Kwetu has had a string of wins including over course and distance this season. He was well held when up in grade on his return at Ascot in February but he’s had a break and a wind op since then so comes here fresh. I like a horse that is proven over the trip and could have the beating of a few of these that are stepping up for the first time. He wont want too much rain but the current forecasts look as if the conditions should be perfect for him.
17:15 Randox Grand National Handicap Chase
Selections: Delta Work, The Big Breakaway E/W, Our Power E/W
Delta Work has historically played second fiddle to Tiger Roll in his popularity but it was great to see him win another Cross County Chase at the Cheltenham Festival this year. He was a creditable 3rd in The Grand National last year and clearly loves these marathon distances. He’s a consistent jumper and any horse that handles the cross country courses are attuned to handle the National and this could be his year.
I have liked The Big Breakaway for The Grand National for some time in his races at Haydock and Chepstow this season he’s been running on and looking to want further. I think he found the Ultima a little short and appeared outpaced. He’s a pretty consistent jumper so hopefully he will take to the National fences. It’d be great to see Joe Tizzard train his first Grand National runner to victory.
Our Power is definitely ‘well off’ at the weights and should have a great chance. He looked a true stayer in his 9 length victory over Flegmatik in the Coral Trophy at Kempton. He has got to step up in trip and take to the fences but in a race that is a lottery there is no reason to see why he won't.
