Which are the best cycling events to bet on?
The Tour de France: The biggest event each year in the sport and is the one that even casual sports fans will have heard of. In recent years British riders have had a great record at the event with Sir Bradley Wiggins, Chris Froome and Geraint Thomas all having won the race and donned the famous yellow jersey in recent years. Team Sky/INEOS' domination of the event has waned in recent years with Slovenian rider Tadej Pogacar winning the 2020 and 2021 editions of the race, followed by back-to-back wins for Jonas Vingegaard with Jumbo-Visma (now Visma-Lease).
The Giro d'Italia: The first Grand Tour of the season is Italy's prestigious Giro d'Italia, which is famed for its beautiful scenery, grueling stages, frenzied fans, and of course the famous Pink Jersey.
Vuelta a Espana: Spain's Vuelta a Espana is the third and final Grand Tour of the season, offering challenging and technical terrain.
The Monuments: These are five one-day races that are deemed as the premier races of their ilk each year. Paris-Roubaix is arguably the most famous as it continues to go over the cobbles but Milan-San-Remo, Tour of Flanders, Leige-Bastogne-Liege and the Giro di Lombardia are given equal billing by the sport.
Giro d'Italia 2024 Betting
The Giro d'Italia is one of the three Grand Tours of professional road cycling, alongside the Tour de France and the Vuelta a España.
The race is held annually in Italy, typically in May. The route changes every year, but the race usually covers around 3,000 to 3,500 kilometres (2,200 miles) over the course of three weeks.
The Giro d'Italia features a combination of flat stages, mountain stages, and time trials, and the winner is determined by the overall fastest time. It is considered one of the toughest and most prestigious races in cycling.
Tadej Pogacar heads into the 2024 edition as the short-priced favourite for the win, ahead of last year's runner-up Geraint Thomas.
Tour de France 2024 Betting
Held annually in France and occasionally in some neighbouring countries (including the UK). The Tour de France usually takes place in July and covers some 2,200 miles over the course of three weeks.
The route changes every year but typically includes a mix of flat stages, mountain stages, and time trials.
The race is divided into 21 stages and the riders are competing for the yellow jersey, which is worn by the leader of the general classification.
Jonas Vingegaard, the winner in 2022 and 2023, was the favourite for the 2024 edition but his participation is up-in-the-air after he fractured his collarbone in April.
Two-time winner Tadej Pogacar features prominently in the betting, while other contenders include Primoz Roglic, Remco Evenepoel, and Juan Ayuso.
