Louis van Gaal enjoyed a successful 26-year in the dugout during which he managed some of the biggest clubs in European football.
began his managerial career at Ajax who he managed from 1991 to 1997. He had an extremely successful time at the club guiding them to three league titles, the Champions League trophy, three Dutch Super Cups, a Dutch Cup, UEFA Cup, UEFA Super Cup and an Intercontinental Cup
In his next role, Van Gaal took charge of Spanish giants Barcelona, proving to be an instant success. Between 1997 and 2000, Van Gaal would win two league titles, the Copa del Rey, and also the UEFA Super Cup, while he is also credited with laying the foundations which have proved to be so successful for subsequent managers, such as Pep Guardiola
After leaving Barcelona, Van Gaal struggled to make an impact with the Dutch national team, failing to lead them to the World Cup in 2002. Van Gaal then returned to Barcelona, but failed to replicate the success of his first spell and left after just six months.
In 2005, Van Gaal took charge of Dutch side AZ Alkmaar, doing a fantastic job, as he guided the club to the league title at the end of the 2008/09 season - their first championship since 1981.
Following his success with AZ he took charge of German side Bayern Munich in July 2009. During his time with the club he won the league title, the German Cup and the German Super Cup, as well as leading them to the Champions League final in 2010. However, Van Gaal was sacked the following season as performances began to deteriorate
Van Gaal now finds himself at Manchester United, and after completing his objectives in his first full season, he was expecting to push on and mount a title challenge this campaign. However, United have performed inconsistently, and pressure has begun to mount on the Dutchman
