After retiring from playing, he transitioned into coaching and was appointed as the first team coach at Fleetwood Town in May 2018, working alongside Steve Eye. Hill remained at Fleetwood until the departure of manager Joey Barton, after which he joined Barton at Bristol Rovers. However, Hill left the club in 2021 for personal reasons.
Later that year, in October 2021, Hill was appointed as the assistant manager for League Two club Hartlepool United. However, he left the club shortly after the departure of manager Dave Challinor. The following day, Hill joined Stockport County as assistant manager, following Challinor to his new team.
