World Cup Group D: France & Denmark to fight it out for top spot in Group D

World Cup Qatar 2022 begins on the 20th of November and here at BettingOdds.com we will have unrivalled coverage of this huge sporting occasion including team/group previews, match betting prediction and props, bet-builders, and ante-post markets. Here we preview Group D...
Team Profiles:
France
To Qualify: 1/12
To Win Group D: 2/5
To Win World Cup: 11/2
World Cup appearances: 16
Best performance: Winners (1998, 2018)
Head Coach: Didier Deschamps
Star player: Kylian Mbappe (PSG)
Golden Boot favourite: Kylian Mbappe (PSG) - 27 Int. goals - 8/1
Our verdict: France arrive in Qatar as the current World Champions and on paper their squad has more than enough quality to repeat their success of four years ago. In 2008 France were knocked out at the group stages of the tournament, however we see absolutely no chance of that happening here considering their opponents. At 2/5 to top the group, they may well be a cornerstone of many punters 'Group Winner Acca's'.
Team Profiles:
Denmark
To Qualify: 4/7
To Win Group D: 3/1
To Win World Cup: 33/1
World Cup appearances: 6
Best performance: Quarter-Finals (1998)
Head Coach: Kasper Hjulmand
Star player: Christian Eriksen (Brentford)
Golden Boot favourite: Martin Braithwaite (Barcelona) - 10 Int. goals - 100/1 - Kasper Dolberg (Nice) - 10 Int. goals - 100/1
Our verdict: After reaching the semi-finals of the 2020 European Championships, Denmark are considered by many as 'dark horses' for the World Cup in Qatar. The bookmakers have Denmark odds-on at 4/7 to advance to the knockout stages, which looks very doable with group matches against Australia and Tunisia. In terms of going deep into the tournament, we would be very surprised to see Denmark make it beyond the quarter-finals.
Team Profiles:
Australia
To Qualify: 7/2
To Win Group D: 19/1
To Win World Cup: 400/1
World Cup appearances: 6
Best performance: Round of 16 (2006)
Head Coach: Graham Arnold
Star player: Matt Ryan (Real Sociedad)
Golden Boot favourite: Jamie Maclaren (Melbourne City) - Int. goals 8 - 250/1
Our verdict: Australia have been eliminated at the group stages in the last three World Cups. Drawn against France, Denmark and Tunisia this time round it's hard to envision them not suffering the same fate for the four consecutive tournament. The Aussie's do not have the star names of old in their current crop and with defeats against France and Denmark both likely to be priced at odds-on, they look set to fight it out with Tunisia for third place in Group D.
Team Profiles:
Tunisia
To Qualify: 10/3
To Win Group D: 20/1
To Win World Cup: 425/1
World Cup appearances: 6
Best performance: Group Stage (1978, 1998, 2002, 2006, 2018)
Head Coach: Jalel Kadri
Star player: Hannibal Mejbri (Manchester United)
Golden Boot favourite: Wahbi Khazri (Montpellier) - Int. goals 24 - 250/1
Our verdict: Tunisia have never progressed beyond the group stages of a World Cup tournament and it's hard to envision them changing that this time round in Qatar. One would think that Tunisia must take at least a point against Denmark in their opener as well as a win against Australia if they are to stand any chance of advancing to the knockout rounds.
