West Ham suffered a deflating defeat against Newcastle at the weekend, ultimately losing 4-3 at St James’ Park having been 3-1 up in the 77th minute. Although they stay in seventh place, they are now just a point clear of the Magpies below them, having played a game more.
Now they are aiming to bounce back against high-flying Tottenham, who have won three of their last four Premier League games, losing just two of their last 10, as they look to chase down Aston Villa for a top-four spot.
Edson Alvarez remains suspended for the Hammers, with David Moyes having other defensive headaches to overcome with Alphonse Areola ruled out and Nayef Aguerd facing a late fitness test.
Richarlison may be one to benefit from any West Ham lapses at the back as he may be restored to the starting lineup in place of Timo Werner. The Brazilian, who enjoyed a run of nine goals in eight league games from December to February, is closing in on a return to the starting XI, having been on the bench for the last two games.
West Ham vs Tottenham Tips
West Ham showed their defensive weakness once again as they capitulated against Newcastle on Sunday, losing 4-3 after going 3-1 up.
The Hammers have the second worst defensive record outside of the bottom three in the Premier League table, having conceded 54 times in 30 games. That could be a major issue against a free-flowing Tottenham side that are among the top scorers in the division.
Spurs’ attacking style under Ange Postecoglou has led to 19 of their last 20 league games going over 2.5 goals and they have often come out on top of high-scoring affairs.
Postecoglu’s side have won three of their last four league games and are fancied to follow up their 2-1 win over Luton last time out with another victory at the London Stadium.
West Ham have won only two of their last 11 league games and their recent downturn in form has put a major dent in their chances of securing another European spot in the league table.
Side with Tottenham in this local derby as their attacking firepower may just be too much for a Hammers side that have been leaky at the back and will be without first choice goalkeeper Alphonse Areola.
Mohammed Kudus has been extremely influential in West Ham’s attacking success this season with seven goals and four assists.
The Ghanaian has also picked up six cautions in 19 starts in the Premier League and is fancied to be shown a card again in this clash, particularly with Spurs likely to be on the front foot for long periods.
The nature of this derby means that there could be plenty of cards, as was seen when the referee dished out six cards in the reverse fixture and Kudus looks a big price to pick up his seventh caution of the league season on Tuesday night.
