Brentford start the weekend five points above the relegation zone. Just three wins from their last 16 games and nine points from the 42 on offer is why the Bees are sliding down the division. In fact, over that period, no side has taken fewer points with Thomas Frank’s side who are on a par with basement boys Sheffield United and Burnley.
The issue appears to lie in defence which has only been amplified by the absence of Ethan Pinnock. The defender has missed Brentford’s last two games and is out for the foreseeable and Frank does not appear to know who is the best replacement.
Nathan Collins started against Liverpool and made an error for one of the goals and was dropped in the midweek defeat to Manchester City. Kristoffer Ajer has started both games in Pinnock’s absence but made the error for City’s goal on Wednesday.
Although it was a resolute performance at the Etihad, instability in Brentford’s backline raises some questions.
Despite starting the weekend in the top half of the division, 11 points better off then Brentford, things are not very rosy at West Ham.
David Moyes leads the betting in Sky Bet’s sack race as the Hammers faithful appear to have lost patience with the Scot. West Ham haven’t won any of their eight games since the turn of the year and have lost their last three without scoring a single goal.
Team News
- West Ham will be without Kalvin Phillips on Monday due to suspension. Tomas Soucek is set to return to the starting XI, while Lucas Paqueta is back in contention to player after recovering from a calf issue.
- For Bentford, they will be without several key players including Bryan Mbeumo, Ethan Pinnock, Aaron Hickey, Rico Henry and Kevin Schade.
West Ham vs Brentford Tips
If Ivan Toney can continue to score at a better rate then his side conceded goals then Brentford will not be sucked into a relegation fight.
Since his return, Toney wasted little time in reacquainting himself with the back of the net.
It took him just 19 minutes to net in his first game back against Nottingham Forest. Including that strike he has netted four goals and racked up 20 shots in six league appearances, only failing to score in the two games with Manchester City.
He will certainly fancy his chances of adding to that tally at the London Stadium against a West Ham side that have shipped 11 goals in their last three games.
Toney has also wasted little time in reacquainting himself with Premier League officials picking up two cards.
For a striker, he puts himself about, completing as many tackles (6) as he has fouls since his return.
He has netted in each of his last two appearances against the Hammers, combining him to do so on Monday with him to be shown a card provides some interest.
Best of luck if you are backing any of these selections and please remember to gamble responsibly.
