The clubs that have spent the most on players who’ve participated in major tournaments

In the build up to the final of Euro 2020 this weekend, the team at BettingOdds.com have conducted a study into which clubs have spent the most on players who’ve been involved in a squad at a major international tournament from 2010 onwards.
It’s been found that Real Madrid (£281.7m), Manchester United (£257.1m) and Manchester City (£250.3m) have spent the most in this regard, whilst Premier League clubs have spent £1.5bn collectively on players that have been members of a squad at either a European Championship or World Cup in the past eleven years.
For players to have qualified for the study, they would have had to have been involved in the squads at any of these tournaments and they must have been signed by the club either during or directly after the tournament. Any players signed in the January transfer window that followed these respective tournaments haven’t been included in the study.
The results of the study can be found below and have been broken down into 4 categories, which include:
- Clubs that have spent the most on transfers that have taken place during or immediately after a major tournament

- English clubs that have spent the most on transfers that have taken place during or immediately after a major tournament
- Clubs that have spent the most on transfers that have taken place during or immediately after a major tournament (By League)
Signings that have taken place directly after other international tournaments (AFC Asian Cup, Africa Cup of Nations, Gold Cup, Copa América, OFC Nations Cup) over the same time period have not been included in the study.
