Stoke vs Luton Predictions: Cards on the menu in Staffordshire

Both teams come into this clash in good form, with the home side unbeaten in four of their last five in all competitions with just four points separating the two in Championship standings. 

Despite not tasting defeat in four of their last five, Stoke have only managed to take three points in one of those with their latest stalemate coming at home to Birmingham on Saturday in the form of a 2-2 draw. 

Luton come into this clash off the back of an excellent 2-0 home win over West Brom and have the chance to rise to as high as seventh in the table with a win at the bet365 here. 

One player I like the look of to pick up a booking in this match is Ben Wilmot. Only three players in the entire division have been shown more yellow cards than the Stoke City defender in 2021/2022. The 22-year-old has been shown nine yellows in total this campaign in just 26 appearances. 

As well as picking up six cautions this term, another boost here is that Wilmot lining up at right-back will most likely put him up against Amari Bell of Luton. The former Blackburn defender has been starting at left-wing back for the Hatters recently and is the most fouled player in their squad this season drawing 1.5 per game on average.

Furthermore, the referee for this match will be John Busby. The official has given out an average of 4.00 yellows per game in the Championship this season which ranks him 6th of 19 of all the refs to have taken control of 10 or more matches this season.  A current best price of 4/1 is on show from Betfair for this selection which looks very reasonable considering it’s landed nine times this season.

The Luton central midfielder who arrived from Motherwell last summer has started 18 league games so far this season and has been shown a yellow card in five of those. Only Henri Lansbury has more yellows for Luton this season and with him averaging at 1.3 fouls per game.
