Southampton vs. Chelsea Betting Tips: Che to revolt at St. Marys

There are four Premier League games being shown live on BT Sport on Tuesday evening and we've asked Scott Thornton to preview the match at St Mary's between Southampton and Chelsea. He's done just that and as usual has picked us out two interesting looking data-driven bets. 

Chelsea bounced back from their humbling defeat at the hands of Leeds United by beating Leicester at the weekend. The game was anything but straight-forward as Tuchel’s side were reduced to 10 men, but the Blues showcased their ability to see the game out.

Southampton were narrowly beaten by Manchester United, but the response after going 1-0 down was remarkable. The Saints kept United pinned into their own defensive third, and they certainly have the tools to hurt Chelsea here.

Chelsea are without N’golo Kante due to injury, and Conor Gallagher due to suspension for this match, so Tuchel will have to rely on Jorginho and Kovacic in the middle of the park. Valentino Livramento is the only absentee for Southampton.

Southampton have only beaten Chelsea once in the last 15 competitive meetings between these sides, and they have lost 10 of those matches. The Saints have also only won 2 of their last 10 games at St. Mary’s, and that home form will need to drastically improve as this season progresses.

Chelsea are averaging 6.6 corners per game in their last 10 competitive away matches. Southampton’s opponents are averaging 5.6 corners per game in their last 10 home matches. The Blues have had 6 corners or more in 4 of their last 5 meetings with Southampton, and  I fancy them to rack up a few corners here.

Che Adams played as the lone striker against United at the weekend, and the player managed 5 shots. Adams is expected to start up front on his own here, and I expect him to get a few chances against a Chelsea side that hasn’t fully gelled as a defensive unit. Chelsea were busy in the transfer market, and their new look defence has only managed to keep 1 clean sheet so far this season; they have conceded 6 goals across their 4 league matches. 

Adams averaged 1.6 shots per game last season, and I’m happy to back him to have at least 2 shots in our bet builder here. He is the main target for Southampton attacks, and he looked very sharp in the previous match.

Chelsea hammered Southampton 6-0 in this fixture last season, and Che Adams still managed to have 2 shots, so I’m happy to back him to have more in this one. As previously mentioned, the player had 5 attempts against Manchester United on Saturday, and I fancy him to have a few again here.

He has had 10 shots across his last 2 starts for Southampton, and he looks set to start for a third game in a row tonight. Bet 365 have the forward priced at 5/1 to have 4 shots or more against Chelsea, one less than he managed against both Man Utd and Cambridge (his last 2 starts).
