The Owls began their season with a sensational 4-0 win over Plymouth in a game where they racked up a mammoth 4.4xG. They were then brought crashing back down to earth with a 4-0 defeat on the road at Sunderland last weekend after conceding four goals in the first 47 minutes.
Leeds have not had the start to the campaign they wished for with just two points accrued after two matches. Daniel Farke’s men played out a 3-3 thriller with Portsmouth on the opening day as both sides scored in added time, before they travelled to West Brom and held the Baggies to a goalless draw.
The visitors arrive at Hillsborough as the 4/5 favourites to get their first three points of the campaign, with the draw available at 13/5. A second home win of the season for Danny Rohl’s side is chalked-up at an industry best price of 7/2 with BetMGM.
Leeds started the campaign as the bookmakers’ favourites in the Championship winner market, but since then have drifted from 3/1 out to 4/1, with Burnley being backed into just 5/2 with some firms.
Georginio Rutter, Crysensio Summerville have both left the club, while the future of Wilfried Gnonto remains uncertain. Things aren’t looking as great as they were just a few weeks ago and I think Friday provides Sheffield Wednesday with a good chance to cause an upset.
For my first selection, I’m backing Josh Windass to record Over 0.5 Shots on Target. Sky Bet have him priced at just 1/2 in this market, so take the considerably bigger offering 6/5 with BetMGM.
Windass finished last season in good form with a goal in each of his last three matches, before bagging on the opening day of the new season against the Pilgrims. He has hit the target at least once in 9 of his last 13 Championship starts and looks overpriced here in front of the Owls faithful.
I’ve also taken a bit of the 19/5 that is available with the same bookmaker for Leeds United’s Junior Firpo to be carded. A known card-magnet amongst punters, the Spaniard has been shown 20 yellows in just 55 league starts since arriving at Elland Road in 2021.
Referee Simon Hooper takes the whistle for this game which should be a positive for this bet after he dished out 4.44 yellows per game on average last season in the Premier League. Getting just under 4/1 in what should be a feisty affair under the lights at Hillsborough feels particularly generous here.
