Royal Antwerp vs. Porto Betting Tips: Back Taremi to Score in Champions League clash
Royal Antwerp are still looking for their first win in the Champions League group stage and welcome Porto to Belgium on Wednesday evening. Our man Anthony Eadson has previewed the action and provided us with his best bets.
Royal Antwerp and FC Porto are facing each other in a competitive match for the first time. Antwerp have only ever previously encountered a Portuguese opponent back in the 1993-94 UEFA Cup when they played against Marítimo.
In their most recent group stage fixture, Antwerp suffered a 3-2 defeat at home to Shakhtar Donetsk. Meanwhile, Porto faced their first defeat of the season in the competition as they lost 1-0 to Barcelona at home.
As it stands in Group H, Porto hold the second position with three points, while Antwerp remain at the bottom with zero points. At the top of the group are Barcelona with six points, while Shakhtar Donetsk follow in third place with three points.
Royal Antwerp vs Porto Tips
Royal Antwerp have only won one of their last seven matches in all competitions and have lost two of their last three. As a result they are now sixth in the Belgian Pro League and we think it will pay to side with the visitors at around evens in this Champions League clash.
Money has already started to come for Porto in the match result market over the last 24 hours and at the time of writing, betMGM remains the best priced of the betting sites out there at 21/20.
Porto have already won on the road in this group stage, when they managed a 3-1 victory over Shakhtar on Matchday 1. They have now won eight of their last 11 matches in all competitions with their only defeats in that period coming against Barcelona and away Benfica.
It would be no surprise to see Sergio Conceicao’s side score on numerous occasions on Wednesday and one player we think looks a little overpriced in the anytime scorer market is Medhi Tarermi. Bet365 go a stand-out top price of 2/1 for the Iranian to find the net against Antwerp, with other firms going as short as 11/8.
A player who often comes alive in the Champions League, Taremi has scored nine goals for Porto in this competition, with six of those coming since the start of last season! A goal in Belgium would see him join a list of just five other Porto players who have managed double figures in this competition - Mario Jardel (19), Lucho Gonzalez (13), Lisandro Lopez (13) Jackson Martínez (12) and Vincent Aboubakar (11).
