Rotherham’s fate has been destined for a while and if they hadn’t managed a 2-1 win over Millwall on Bank Holiday Monday, they would have been relegated to League One. That victory was only the fourth for the Millers this season in what has been a predominantly miserable campaign. Leam Richardson’s side will be motivated to win back-to-back matches, however if they fail to come out on top their relegation will be confirmed. For those who fancy a win for the hosts, 13/5 is widely available with most trusted betting sites.
For a large portion of this season it looked as if Plymouth would finish well clear of the relegation zone, however their form since the turn of the year has been poor. The Pilgrims sit 21st in the second tier standings, just one point above the drop zone. The club are winless in their last six and parted company with Ian Foster earlier in the week, with Neil Dewsnip set to take charge of the team for Friday’s clash.
Rotherham vs Plymouth Tips
For our main play of the evening we are backing Under 2.5 goals to be scored in the match at a current best price of 9/10 with BetMGM. Both of these teams have struggled to find the net over the last month or so, with Rotherham having failed to score in five consecutive matches prior to their victory over Millwall four days ago.
Plymouth meanwhile have drawn a blank in four of their last six Championship outings and will be desperate to shut out their opponents here considering they still have some very tricky games ahead of them. When the markets opened for Friday’s face-off we were surprised to see the goal-line priced so high considering the poor return in the final third from both sides this season. All things considered 9/10 looks a price well worth getting behind.
If one man is to find the net at the New York Stadium we fancy it to be Morgan Whittaker. Only Sammie Szmodics (23) and Adam Armstrong (20) have bagged more Championship goals than the Plymouth frontman this season. Whittaker is averaging more shots per game (3.7), than both of the aforementioned top scorers and he could find more joy against the worst defence in the division based on goals conceded.
We will be pairing Whittaker to score with Bali Mumba to be carded, taking us to a very backable 10/1 via the bet365 Bet Builder feature. The 22-year-old has started 14 away matches this season and has been cautioned in six of those. This is Plymouth’s best chance to pick up three points between now and the end of the season and we expect to see them pick up a good few cards in pursuit of a crucial victory.
