Republic of Ireland vs England Predictions
Republic of Ireland vs England Preview
After falling at the final hurdle in the Euros against Spain, the Three Lions are aiming for promotion back to the top-tier Nations League after an embarrassing relegation to League B.
This will be their first meeting against Ireland in four years, and the first competitive fixture against them since the 1990 European Championship Qualifiers. However, England haven’t beaten their neighbours away from home since 1964 and have only managed to win one of their last four head-to-head meetings in all competitions despite the clear gulf in class between the two sides.
Gareth Southgate has handed the reigns over to Lee Carsley on an interim basis and he has put faith in his former Under-21 players including the likes of Noni Madueke, Angel Gomes, Morgan Gibbs-White and Tino Livramento. With some of the big stars including Jude Bellingham, Cole Palmer, Phil Foden and Ollie Watkins out, we will see a new-look England attack but they should still have enough firepower to get over the line against their old foes.
Republic of Ireland have lost three of their last four competitive home games, winning only against lowly Gibraltar.
Despite England’s mediocre head-to-head record against the Irish, they possess a lot of firepower at both ends of the pitch and comprehensively beat them 3-0 in their last meeting at Wembley.
With the likes of Harry Kane, Bukayo Saka, Jack Grealish and Anthony Gordon all expected to be involved, Lee Carsley’s men will be expected to hit the back of the net a couple of times which should be enough considering their opponents’ issues on the attacking front.
Republic of Ireland have scored just three goals in their last six meetings in all competitions and most recently lost 3-0 to Portugal in a friendly. We have seen a lot of draws historically between these two sides but there is a lot of gulf in quality between the two squads at the moment and I expect that to show when they clash this Saturday.
A one goal win for England gives us a refund while a win by two or more goals will be enough for a full winner.

With Kyle Walker out of the squad and Kieran Trippier retired from international football, Trent Alexander-Arnold will be expected to start at the right-back position.
He registered 10 assists for club and country last season and loves to bomb forward down the right flank.
He will also be expected to take every set piece for the Three Lions with the likes of Harry Kane and Harry Maguire waiting in the box which makes the price of 4/1 an attractive proposition; I will take that with a small 0.25pt stake as our second bet for this game.
