Report: The Premier League managers and teams that handle fixture-congestion the best
With complaints about fixture-congestion rife amongst Premier League managers currently, BettingOdds.com have analysed which Premier League teams and managers are the best at stopping midweek European fixtures affecting their league results.
We have analysed data from the past 5 and 10 years respectively to find out the win/loss/draw percentages and points per game that each team and manager has received in Premier League fixtures that have immediately followed a game in either the UEFA Champions League, Europa League or UEFA Super Cup.
The purpose of the report was to find out which sides and managers are the most adept at handling fixture-congestions. To qualify for the report, all teams and managers involved must have participated in at least five Premier League games that have directly followed a European fixture within the same week.
Headline stats from the report include:
- Leicester City have the best points per game record (2.14) in Premier League matches following a European fixture - more than any other Premier League side in the last 5 years.
- Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has the best points per game record (2.22) in Premier League fixtures following a match in European competition - more than any other manager in the last five years.
- In the last five years, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has the third-worst points per game record (1.44) in Premier League fixtures that immediately followed a fixture in European competition.
