Report: Manchester City Might Have Ultimate Glory But The Best Performing Premier League Club Was, In Fact...

What an end to the season. Though Manchester City took home their fourth Premier League crown in five years (eventually!), their duel with north-west rivals Liverpool has been the narrative we just couldn’t turn away from, and both teams should be applauded for the entertainment they have provided.
And though we now know the winners, the near-misses, and those unfortunate to descend down into the Championship, in the last of our series, BettingOdds.com wants to examine who blew their beans and those who punched well above their weight.
Using an algorithm that has broken down Team Value into individual position (Goalkeeper / Defence / Midfield / Forward) to produce an average weighted score (the four average values of each individual positional field ranked in ascending order, combined and divided to produce an average) and measured it against their final position in the Premier League for 2021/22 we have revised the Premier League table into order of best to worst performers.
For example, in the Premier League, Brentford have the fourth-lowest team value (£207.81m), from a 25-man squad. Their three registered goalkeepers have an average value of £6.90m (18th / 18 points), nine defenders average £5.94m (18th/ 18 points), midfield £7.99m from eight players (17th/ 17 points) and an average forward value of £13.95m (12th/ 12 points) from their five defined attackers. This created an overall average points tally for Brentford of 14. Weighed up against their final position of 13th, Brentford finished +1.0 places higher than expected of them (7th in our overall table in this regard).
As a result, West Ham United, who accepted the Europa League Conference spot after failing to beat Brighton & Hove Albion on the final day of the season, can claim to be the best performing Premier League outfit based on the difference between Predicted Position and Final Position, finishing a good 4.5 places above where they should have been expected to based on the value of their players.
The worst performing team out of the 20 was unsurprisingly a team that has spent recklessly but only just avoided relegation, Everton Football Club, who remain a Premier League team but ultimately finished in 16th place. Everton had a Team Value Points Predicted Position of 8.5, but ended up bottom of our ranking from a difference of -7.5. Take a look at the full results below.
