Los Blancos lifted their 15th Champions League trophy as they overcame Borussia Dortmund at the start of June, while Atalanta came out victorious in the Europa League after a magnificent 3-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen to claim their first bit of European trophy.
Those results set up this Super Cup clash which can be seen live on TNT Sports and unsurprisingly it’s Real Madrid who are the favourites to win the game inside 90 minutes at 1/2. The draw is on-show at 7/2, while a famous win for the Italian outfit can be backed at 5/1 with several bookmakers.
Carlo Ancelotti may have lost the services of Toni Kroos this summer, but the addition of Kylian Mbappe could take the side to even greater heights. The Frenchman has been vocal about just how much he wanted to play for the European Champions and it will be interesting to see if he is deployed on the left side of attack, or potentially as part of a two with Vinicius Junior.
That mouthwatering frontline, along with Jude Bellingham sitting behind them is sure to put the frighteners on any defence and despite Atalanta’s Europa League triumph, I fancy Real to once again show their naus and pedigree on the biggest European stage and come out on top.
Since 2014, Madrid have appeared in five Super Cup finals and have won four of those. Two of those triumphs went to extra time after the scores finished level after 90 minutes, and for my first selection I'll be backing Real Madrid to lift the trophy.
Swiss referee Sandro Scharer will be the referee for the game and taking a look back at the last 13 European matches he has taken control of, he has shown an average of 4.92 cards per game. In just two of those 13 has he failed to give both teams a card and by adding each team to have 10+ booking points to Real Madrid to lift the trophy, gives a very attractive looking 10/11 poke.
At 15/1 with Paddy Power, I’ve also had a few quid on Vinicius Junior to Score and be Carded. Last season the Brazilian proved why he’s one of the best players on the planet and scored his 24th goal of the season for his club side in the Champions League final. Remarkably, this bet landed in seven of his last 12 starts for Real Madrid at the back end of last season and at 15/1, I think this Bet Builder holds plenty of value.
