RB Salzburg vs. Bayern Munich Predictions: Lewandowski and Sane to combine for 8/1 shot

Salzburg host German giants Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League tie on Wednesday night, live on BT Sport.

Bayern will be in and around the favourites to go all the way in this seasons Champions League but will have to be better than they were at the weekend if they are to progress comfortably. Mid table Bochum stunned the German champions in a 4-2 defeat in a game they thoroughly deserved to come away with all three points. Bayern will take confidence from the last couple times they faced Salzburg – 6-2 and 3-1 wins Vs the Austrians in last seasons CL group stage suggest we could be in for another thriller.

Salzburg are definite underdogs here but will look to cause a similar upset Bayern faced on the weekend. This is the home side's first time reaching this stage of the competition and they do come into this fixture on hot form – 5 wins on the bounce and a very strong home form suggests it won’t be an easy match for the away side if they aren’t at their best, however you would expect the experience of Nagelsmann's side to prove evident.

Goal line is high as expected for this fixture but a line I still think it’s worth taking @10/11 on over 3.5 all things considered. Bayern come into this game as short as 2/5 so instead I’ve opted for goals at a much more back-able price.

Over 3.5 goals has landed in 6 of Bayern's last 7 games, with them conceding one or more in 4 of the last 5. If Salzburg have any chance to progress you feel they must at least score here, something they achieved twice vs Bayern last season. There is a clear vulnerability at the defence of the Germans and that should lead to an entertaining affair on Wednesday, as you cannot question the firepower of the away side. A high scoring match could be well on the cards.

With Lewandowski as short as 4/11 to notch anytime vs Salzburg, having it to be assisted by Leroy Sane looks a great price at 8/1. The bookies fancy Bayern to score a few here and Sane is one of the main providers for their front men.

After a rocky 1st season in Germany, Sane finally seems to be hitting top form for the German Giants. He’s managed 11 goals and 11 assists across the Bundesliga and CL this season, only second to Thomas muller (18) on the assist charts. Muller to provide an assist for Lewandowski is 5/2, so taking an 8/1 shot for Sane looks a great way in.
