Nottingham Forest vs. Man Utd Betting Tips: Back fouls at The City Ground

The second League Cup semi-final first leg takes place on Wednesday with Manchester United traveling to the City Ground to take on Nottingham Forest. We’ve got Anthony Eadson on hand to provide us with his best bets including one that has landed in six of the away side's last seven matches.

Steve Cooper’s Nottingham Forest dispatched Wolves on penalties in their League Cup quarter-final and now have the chance to reach their first Cup final in this competition since 1982. 

Manchester United have seen off Aston Villa, Burnley and Charlton so far in the League Cup this season and are the bookmakers favourites to go on and lift the trophy, priced at 5/6 to do so.

In terms of the match result odds on Wednesday evening, Erik ten Hag’s men can be backed at 4/6 to bounce back from their defeat to Arsenal with a win in the Midlands. The draw is available at 14/5, while the hosts can be sided with at 17/4 with bet365.

Both of our tips on Wednesday focus on fouls, with the first of those being for Manchester United to concede Over 9.5  in the game. This can be backed with either BetUK or Unibet, priced at 9/10, 

Only two sides in the Premier League have committed more fouls this season than Manchester United, who are averaging 11.6 per game. Taking a look back at United’s last seven matches in all competitions, this bet has landed in six of those, including in the quarter-final against Charlton. 

After a slow start to their season, Forest have improved significantly and have not lost a match in front of their own fans since the middle of September! Cooper’s side have scored in their last nine at the City Ground and with a lively atmosphere on Wednesday, we fancy United to rack up the fouls.

The first of those is Brennan Johnson who ranks second for total fouls for Forest this season behind Ryan Yates. The Welshman is averaging over a foul a game this term and has committed 1+ in all of his last seven league appearances. 

Next up it’s Morgan Gibbs-White who continues to impress for Forest. In his last three league appearances Gibbs-White has made five fouls and after making two in the league Cup quarter-final and defensive duties on the cards against a strong United side, he looks a solid prospect to make one or more. 

Lisandro Martinez has been carded seven times in 24 appearances for Manchester United this season and is the next player we are targeting to make a foul in this semi-final. The World Cup winner has committed a foul in nine of his last 12 league starts and can help bring home this 4-fold here. 

Rounding off the quartet is Remo Freuler who committed two fouls in Forest’s quarter-final against Wolves two weeks ago. The Swiss International is averaging 0.9 fouls per game in the league in 2022/2023, and combining him with the three players above pays just north of 4/1 with Paddy Power.
