Early names in the upper echelon of the betting include Michael Beale, Kevin Muscat, Sean Dyche, Ralph Hasenhuttl, and…Steven Gerrard.
Former Gers assistant, Michael Beale, thrived in his role en route to playing a pivotal part in Rangers’ title triumph under Steven Gerrard.
He followed the latter to Aston Villa and has gone on to branch out in his own right as a No.1 at QPR who he has in promotion contention in the Championship. Beale is the early 2/1 favourite with BetVictor.
Speaking of Steven Gerrard - we've got to haven't we? - he is inevitably being linked with a return, given his success during his previous spell combined with his out-of-work status.
But, and it's a big but, would Rangers fans want him back after he left for Aston Villa last season? His subsequent spell in the Premier League didn't go to plan either, lasting just over a year.
Could this be the job that Sean Dyche has been waiting for?
The former Burnley boss has been linked with a plethora of posts since leaving the club back in April, however he has yet to pin his managerial mast to a new club. You'd think he'd be interested in this vacancy though!
Another name the Rangers fans know, Kevin Muscat, is also in the running.
The Aussie took over from fellow countryman - and now Celtic boss - Ange Postecoglou at Yokohama F. Marinos, with whom Muscat led to the Japanese league title.
Muscat also worked under Postecoglou at both Melbourne Victory and the Australian national team, winning Championship titles with the former when he took over as No.1.
Coming up against his former boss in Glasgow would make for compelling viewing.
Ex-Gers midfielder Gennaro Gattuso also has ties to the club but he only took charge of Valencia in the summer so the timing may not work on this occasion.
The timing, however, may work for Kjetil Knutsen.
The Norwegian has previously been linked with a number of Premier League and Championship clubs, but has yet to be lured away from Bodo/Glimt, however their domestic season has now finished so it will be interesting to see what would happen if he was approached.
Other out-of-work managers include former Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl, veteran Rafa Benitez, plus Chris Wilder.
Alternatively, there’s the young gun duo of former Fulham and Bournemouth boss Scott Parker and Domenico Tedesco, who was most recently at RB Leipzig and previously managed Schalke and Spartak Moscow.
