Next Newcastle Manager Odds Update: Odds slashed on Steven Gerrard to become new Toon Boss

Speculation surrounding the Newcastle job is one of the major topics of debate on Tyneside right now as incumbent Steve Bruce looks to be reaching the end of his St James’ Park tenure.
The Toon’s new joint-owner Amanda Staveley revealed that while she had spoken to Bruce she didn't exactly give any assurances over his future. "All decisions about players and manager are for another day,” she said rather elusively.
“We’re going to do a review right through the football operations and come back and make some decisions.”
Bruce has come under a barrage of criticism since he took charge of his boyhood club in 2019 and now just over two years later he finds himself priced at 1/6 to be the next Premier League manager to leave; in from 5/1 a few days ago.
In truth, at the moment there’s every chance he could be jettisoned before Newcastle’s next game against Tottenham - which would be his 1,000th in management - but who knows, the club’s new hierarchy could decide to keep him on for the time being. However, he’s unlikely to feature in their long-term plans.
“I want to continue, I’d like the chance to show the new owners what I can do, but you have to be realistic and they may well want a new manager to launch things for them,” he told The Telegraph.
“New owners normally want a new manager. I’ve been around long enough to understand that.
“That decision is not up to me. I accept that and I will accept what comes my way. I have to wait to have those conversations with people when the time is right.
“If I don’t make it to a 1,000 games against Spurs, you might say that could only happen to me, but I don’t think it would be cruel. It’s just football."
A multitude of managers have already been linked with the club and its new eye-popping £320bn bank balance, including blockbuster names such as Antonio Conte, the unemployed English trio of Steven Gerrard, Eddie Howe and Frank Lampard, plus former boss Rafa Benitez whose odds continue to shrink (8/1).
Gerrard was a 20/1 outsider in the betting on Thursday when we looked at five potential next Newcastle managers, however the Rangers boss now finds himself as the 3/1 frontrunner to get the job should Bruce depart.
Gerrard will harbour ambitions of becoming a Premier League manager, could now be the ideal time to test himself in England’s top-flight?
Should he, as he no doubt does, want the Liverpool job in the future then he’s going to have to wait until at least June 2024, which is when Jurgen Klopp’s current contract expires; whose to say that the German won’t prolong his stay beyond then? There’s simply no guarantee that Gerrard will be a shoo-in for the position anyway. A lot can happen.
A club with Newcastle’s astonishing wealth and newfound ambition makes them an attractive proposition for most managers.
Gerrard is a young, hungry, and passionate boss who will be in-tune with the club’s fanbase. He ended Celtic’s nine-year dominance of Scottish football last season by bringing the title back to Ibrox, and while there are more experienced and successful managers on the scene, he’s a high-profile name who has spent the last three years operating in a high-pressure environment.
He certainly has the potential to invigorate the club as they embark on an exciting new era.
