Newell’s Old Boys have proven a difficult side to beat recently, racking up a five-game unbeaten run to leave them with a good shot of qualifying for the quarter-finals with just two games remaining.
However, Argentine giants Boca Juniors are just outside the all-important top four and would leapfrog their hosts with a win on Saturday, while also harbouring a game in hand after their trip to Estudiantes in March was suspended due to a medical emergency.
Azul y Oro will also be buoyed by the form of Edinson Cavani, with the former PSG and Manchester United striker rolling back the years to set the competition alight over the past month.
Newell's vs Boca Juniors Tips
Argentine football has not been blessed with goals over the past few years but Boca Juniors have been involved in their fair share of high-scoring games this season and another entertaining affair could be on the cards in Rosario.
Boca, who have seen 26 goals across their 11 Copa de la Liga Profesional games, have seen both teams get on the scoresheet in five of their last six fixtures in this competition and some 20 goals have been scored in this period.
Newell’s Old Boys have not been particularly prolific this term, but they have conceded seven times in their last five at home so could come under threat from Boca’s attack, although they should have plenty of opportunity to strike back against a visiting defence that have conceded in each of their last three on the road.
Edinson Cavani returned to South America in July 2023 after over 15 years in Europe and, while he could only manage three goals in his first season at Boca Juniors, the veteran forward has rediscovered his shooting boots this term and looks a good bet to find the net on Saturday.
The former Paris Saint Germain and Manchester United striker has more than doubled his tally from last season already, scoring seven goals in Boca’s last seven competitive games and notching five times in his last four Copa de la Liga Profesional appearances.
Cavani may be 37 years old, but the forward still has world-class technique and movement and looks one of the most dangerous strikers in the country now he has found full fitness, suggesting he could be the man to break the deadlock in Rosario.
