Napoli vs. AC Milan Predictions: Insigne tipped to continue goalscoring form

While it’s no surprise to see the likes of Man City, PSG, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid top their respective domestic leagues, over in Italy there’s an engrossing three-way race for the Scudetto. 

At the time of publication, we have Napoli (1st) and AC Milan (2nd) locked on 57 points at the top of the Serie A table. The teams go head-to-head in Naples on Sunday night (7.45pm, BT Sport 1) in what promises to be an enthralling clash, however there’s every chance that come kick-off we could see defending champions Inter (3rd) lead the way as they face Salernitana on Friday night needing a win to go top. 

However, regardless of how Inter get on, if the duel between Napoli and AC Milan produces a winner, then that team will be top come the close of play this weekend.

Napoli ended their four game winless run in all competitions with a dramatic 2-1 injury-time win at Lazio last week. Napoli have been installed as the 29/25 favourites to cement their place at the top of the table with a win which would move them three points clear of AC Milan, who themselves can be backed at 27/10 to scalp their titles rivals at the at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, with a draw available at 23/10.

It’s a tough one to call as both teams are at the top for a reason: they win a lot of games, and don’t lose many. 

Napoli are unbeaten in Serie A in 2022, recording five wins and three draws, while Milan are unbeaten in seven and have an excellent away record with nine wins, three draws, and just the one defeat on the road this season.

While a win would provide a real statement of intent, both teams will be desperate not to lose, making a draw our preferred pick at 23/10 (Betfair).

It’s been the outcome of Milan’s last three matches, and three of Napoli’s last five, with four of those combined six draws ending 1-1; a result which could be the way to go on Sunday night at 6/1 with SBK.

Napoli legend Lorenzo Insigne is in fine goalscoring form for his beloved club right now as he continues his quest to end his Napoli days clutching hold of the Scudetto.

Insigne, who has signed a pre-contract to join Toronto FC in the summer, has scored nine goals for Napoli so far this term, including four in his last six games, and in each of his last two.

We fancy Napoli's all-time leading scorer to get on the scoresheet once again this weekend as Napoli bid to retain their place at the top. The striker, who is on penalties, can be backed at 49/20 (Unibet) to score anytime and 17/5 (William Hill) to score first for his team, but it’s the 13/2 to open the scoring in the match which we really like at 13/2.

It’s a bet that’s landed in two of his last four games, including the 2-1 win over Lazio last Sunday.
