Manchester United v Paris Saint-Germain Tips: Deadly Di Maria to hit the target in Manchester

Manchester United require just a point to book their place in the Champions League knockout phase with a game to spare as they take on Paris Saint-Germain at Old Trafford. The game can be seen live on BT Sport 2 kicking off at 8:00pm and @AnthonyEadson is on hand with three football tips for the action.
The Red Devils have beaten PSG in their own backyard in the last two meetings between these sides, however it’s the Parisans who have been made the 6/4 favourites to win the game with the bookmakers. The draw can be backed at 13/5, with United priced at 15/8 for the win, an implied probability of 35%.
Alex Telles and David De Gea both came off with knocks against Southampton at the weekend and are a doubt for the game along with Paul Pogba, Luke Shaw, Eric Baily and Anthony Martial. Axel Tuanzebe will miss the game through suspension and Edinson Cavani could start after his impressive display off the bench on Sunday.
Juan Bernat, Julian Draxler, Mauro Icardi, Thilo Kehrer and Pablo Sarabia are all absent through injury for Thomas Tuchel’s side. Marco Veratti is fit again after an injury whilst Presnel Kimpembe and Idrissa Gueye are both available after serving a suspension.
Bruno Fernandes 2+ shots on target - 2pts @ 17/10 Betfair, Paddy Power
Angel Di Maria 2+ shots on target - 1.5 pts @ 16/5 Betfair, Paddy Power
Cavani 2+ shots on target, Maguire & Kimpembe carded - 0.25pts @ 40/1 Paddy Power
The first of three selections on Wednesday for Manchester United v PSG comes in the form of Bruno Fernandes to have two or more shots on target, priced at 17/10 with both betfair and Paddy Power. Since arriving in Manchester last January, Bruno Fernandes has played 36 games and scored 22 goals, an impressive strike rate even if 12 of those have been penalties.
The attacking midfielder has also provided 13 assists in that time, but it’s the shots on target market where I’m focusing my attention. Bruno is in good form at the moment and has registered two or more shots on target in all four of his most recent matches for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side. Being on penalties and most likely playing just behind Edinson Cavani and Marcus Rashford, I’m backing Fernandes to have two or more shots on target at 17/10 with Betfair and Paddy Power, with other firms such as SkyBet going considerably shorter 11/10.
Next up I’m having a small play on Angel Di Maria to have two or more shots on target, priced at 16/5 with Betfair and Paddy Power. Playing in a front three with Kylian Mbappe and Neymar can often leave Di Maria a little overlooked in this market in my opinion and with the other two priced at 4/6 and 1/1 for 2+ shots on target this could be the case again.
The Argentine has registered at least one shot on target in six of the ten games he has started for Paris Saint-Germain this season with two or more shots on target landing in three of his last nine games. A player for the big occasion, Di Maria currently has more shots on target than any other player in Tuchel’s side this season in the Champions League and he does make some appeal at 16/5 with Betfair, with again SkyBet going much shorter at 5/4.
My longshot for the evening comes in the form of Edinson Cavani to have two or more shots on target, with both Harry Maguire and Presnel Kimpembe to be carded at 40/1.
After coming off the bench at half-time against Southampton on Sunday, Edinson Cavani gave the Manchester United fans what they had been waiting for with two goals and an assist to help his side to a 3-2 win on the south coast. The Uruguayan will be itching to impress against former employers and I’m fancying him to have two or more shots on target which looks a reasonable proposition at 9/5 as a single, again with SkyBet going much shorter at 1/1.
Harry Maguire has picked up five cards in seventeen games for club and country this season and is the next name I’m adding into this Same Game Multi. I’ve been impressed with his play over the last few weeks but think the 27-year-old could struggle against the pace of Mbappe and trickery of Neymar.
Rounding off this 40/1 shot is Paris Saint-Germain’s Presnel Kimpembe to be carded. The French centre-half has been booked twice in Ligue 1 this season in eight starts. During last season’s Covid disrupted season, the 25-year-old was cautioned six times in just 16 appearances, and with stats like that and so much on the line here for PSG, I’m fancying him to pick up another.
Best of luck to those following the selections on Wednesday evening. Enjoy the game and please always remember to gamble responsibly.
